Hey i wanted to know is it safe to swap ps3 hardrives . .(i have alot of dlc and my friend wants to borrow the hard drive so he can use it on his)

it could, but you lose the opportunity to send it to sony if it breaks, even if you pay for it. You will have to buy a new one or get it fixed 3rd party if it breaks. That in mind, cleaning the dust and applying new thermal compound to the proc will help keep system cool.budboarder

He's right if you open it sony will not take it back and youll have to buy a new PS3 . . . . use a vaccum

i have a launch 20 gb ps3

the warranty is way over

and i noticed my ps3 gets hot very quick and isnt so quiet anymore.

i have never opened it to clean all the dust from inside.

if i do this, will it make my ps3 run quieter?

Sounds like your a couple steps away from YLOD . . .I really recomend you use a vacumm to get the dust out. Or most likely youll get Ylod . . .Aperently people who have gotten ylod (including me) noticed that the PS3 was getting louder and the air would be hot even w/like 5 min of gameplay . .

Ive been thinking about upgrading to an Elite..

What does the Elite have that the Premium Doesnt??

How do you tell if your Elite consolehas the smaller 65nm cooler the 95nm chips and the heat sync.Andwhat are they??? All i know is that the new chips+heat sync=low probability of RROD.
