ok, so here we go again, I must be going on some other wild tangent. it astonishs me how some people can use the internet as frequently as most people do, and have no idea of some very basic computer and network concepts.
i recently posted a thread in the ps3 forum with the name
Message Decode Rot13.
i would hope that some of you already knows what that means, of the 4 people who replied to my thread, only 1 got it. and inside of 15 minutes my thread was locked. i wrote the following
vf vg whfg zr be qbrf nalbar ryfr gver bs gur pbagvahvat penc gung vf qhzcrq va bhe sbehz? gurer neag nal vagerfgvat cbfgf, be rira onfvp uneqjner be argjbex dhrfgvbaf nalzber, vgf whfg oyngrag snaoblfvfz penc gung doesnt orybat naljurer arne pvivyvmrq pbairefgngvba, v unq gb cbfg guvf va ebg orpnhfr ubcrshyyl vg jvyy xrrc gur 12 lrne byq xvqqrf naq vqvbg snaoblf bhg bs n erfcrpgvoyr guernq, vs lbh jnag gb unir erny pbairefgngvbaf vq fnl yrgf gel rapelcgvba.
I had to leave 1 word unciphered due to auto censoring of swears. - if you already havent figured it out, ROT13 is a basic ceaser shift encryption, enabling anyone that is firmilair with the term free to decode the message. I mean seriously, it was in the name of the thread. but some people dont take the time to figure out what something new means, insted falling back on the addage, i dont know it, so i fear it.
My intention was soley to keep the converstation among those in the know enough to understand the meaning of the title. thus weeding out the riff raff. I do find it desterbing that the moderators in my forum of choice will let a PS3 sucks, or what not thread sit around for hours, and my clever little ciphered message gets nabbed in 10 minutes. wheres the justice in that, and if the mods dont understand some of the basics, what happens to users who dont use english? do their threads get the axe too?

Space Sims - DOA?
by sylentknyght on Comments
any one else notice how Flight Sims/ Space Combat sims have seemingly died out over the last few years? what ever happend to the cornerstone that was PC gaming?
The Lucas Arts behemouth - Xwing&Tie Fighter series, or WingCommander, Starlancer, Tachyon, Privateer... or how about any of the older JANES games? Longbow, NavyFighter, all of the classic flight sims have come and gone, and the only thing that resembles it anymore is Microsofts Combat Flight sim, or the latest installments of the X series (and no i dont mean the x-men) X3 is so hardware hungry that it litterly doesnt run well on SLI 7800GTX's.
I am sure that im not the only one with an ageing Joystick, am I the only that would like to see Lucas Arts revisit XvT, or anyother major publiser to give the combat sim genre another go?

Browser Favoritism?

it feels to me at least that GameSpot writes their site for IE and that many features are warped or bugged in Firefox. would it really be all that hard to support/test for the most widely accepted non microsoft browser?
Searching for the Search?

In my time on various forums it has become abundantly clear that new posters to a forum will typically post a thread, about a topic which is has been previously discussed. That is infact perfectly normal, they are new. ya cant blame the newguy for not knowing the S.O.P. so ya give'm a week or two to become aclimated to the workings of the forum.
What makes me take a step back however, are the users that have more than say 50 posts, who will post a new thread about a recent development, when not only is there between one and three previously posted. Not only previously posted, but on the first page alone! Not only that, but they dont even discuss different aspects of what the news is!?! its a continuance of the same information which was already ground up, digested, and has allready passed.
Take for example; the 7 controllers of the ps3. ( I spend most of my time in the ps3 forums so please excuse my personal prefernce) If I recall correctly at one time there were up to 6 threads on the first 2 pages of forums alone, or the recent events of the "possible" delays "plauging" sony also exhibit this behavior.
Not as though the rampant multipost was bad enough, then you have the RE: posts. "already posted" "old news" and so forth, that continually bump these toxic repositories back up to the front of the forum,
- please anyone posting to one of these -
like pulling your pet hamster off life support "LET IT DIE!"
please take in to consideration that what you have to add to the forum community may have been previously discussed, so please, try searching first, sometimes all you have to do is look past the first page.
