Now, now, before I finish that sentence, let me explain. Recently, I've found myself trying to expand my musical horizons a bit. I try to take recommendations from other people with similar taste in music to me, and I've learned of some amazing artists by doing so.
I just felt like writing a blog about music because I downloaded Florence and The Machine's Lungs last night, and I'm already in love with the album.
Looking back at my endeavours in music, I think the band that introduced me to a lot of the music that I've spent the past five years listening to was System of a Down. It was, I believe, during the winter of 2005 that I purchased two of their albums impulsively. From then onwards, I became somewhat of a Metalhead.
I used to listen to a lot of Nu or Alternative Metal bands, such as Disturbed, Mudvayne and Slipknot for a few years now. I enjoyed that genre/s of music but, the problem was, that was all I listened to pretty much. Ilistened to the occassional bands that I knew and loved since my childhood discovery of the Rock genre, such as Blink-182 and Sum 41 (They're not really "Rock", I know), but my taste in music was very limited.
Meeting users on GameSpot who are avid music listeners, as well as whose musical horizons are quite broad as opposed to mine, helped me discover many new bands. Here are a few people I'd like to shout out to:
- Fall_of_Reach
- Cactus_Matt
- COD4Shinedown
- freek666
- joelgargan
Without those users on GameSpot, I don't think I'd be listening to bands like Tool, Porcupine Tree and Alice in Chains. I doubt I'd even pay attention to cIassic albums like Urban Hymns by The Verve.
I'm still expanding my taste in music though, and am welcome to (almost!) any suggestions made by you guys.
To end this blog, I must admit something… I think I'm going Indie. Seriously, I never saw this coming, but I am. I've been hooked on Florence and The Machine and The White Rabbits for a few months now, but I finally made the jump to the Indie wagon as soon as I downloaded Lungs last night. I'm currently downloading the entire discography of The Decemberists. :|
Don't worry, Ron. I'm not gunna start wearing skinny jeans and spend two hours on my hair every morning. -.-
