Episode 71: Teach Me Accel Synchro!
In a garage, Leon is working on a motorcycle. Two more stop some time away and a man gets off.
???: Thanks for taking me here
??? 2: No problem. Are you sure you want to do this?
???: ….Yeah.
??? 2: Alright then.
The other person drives off. He slowly walks towards the garage. He stops and clenches his fist briefly. He stops hesitating and then walks inside the garage.
Leon: I don't give autographs when I'm working.
???: I'm not here about that
Leon looks up and sees Axel standing there
Leon: Axel? What are you doing here?
Axel: Leon….I have a favor to ask you.
Leon: Is that any way to ask a favor? You say, "Excuse me Mr. Leon, can you take time out of your life to help me with my stupid problem?"
Axel: If I'm such a bother I'll come back later
Leon: Wait, no. That was a joke kid, jeez. You're a friend of Yusuke, so I can't ignore you. So, what do you want?
Axel: I…I want you to teach me Accel Synchro
Opening
Leon sits there a moment digesting what he heard. He sighs and then snorts. Axel looks confused as Leon breaks into laughter
Axel: What's funny?!
Leon: You are! Why on earth would I do that?! It would just be a waste of my time and your time
Axel: How can you say that? You showed Yusuke the way to Accel Synchro. Why can't you do the same to me?
Leon: I just gave my reason.
Axel: I still don't understand why though!
Leon: Yusuke had potential.
Axel: I've been given a Fate Crystal too! Not to mention I made it all the way to the semi-finals of the DMGP!
Leon: I'm not talking back about that kind of potential. Yusuke is different from you. Yusuke fought in order to protect his friends. All you are fighting for is power, Axel. Well? Am I wrong?
Axel: Of course you're wrong! I'm trying to grow more powerful as I can fight alongside the others.
Leon: Axel…if you're going to lie, at least believe the lie yourself
Axel: It isn't a lie!
Leon: Oh? So you are telling the truth? There isn't some kind of dual motive? Such as, getting revenge against someone?
Axel: That's…that's…
Leon: I thought so. You are only doing this for yourself.

Leon: I know about Silver, Axel. How it was stolen by the Machine Emperor. I know it's a hard thing to accept, but I can't teach you that over something simple. Accel Synchro…I don't know where it came form, but I know it's a power you use to help people. I'm not going to help you when such a selfish reason strives you on
Axel: No! Please! I…I need to get Silver back! Without him…I'm nothing. How can I be strong…like the voice said…?
Leon: The voice? What the hell are you talking about?
Axel: In my sleep…there's been a voice. Telling me its power would be mine, and that I had to lose something special

Meanwhile, Yusuke walks to the café and sees only Alicia and Dex
Dex: Hey.
Yusuke: Hi. So, where's everyone else?
Alicia: I heard that Seth has a meeting with a representative of the World League. Tamika said something about an errand for her father. I don't know where Axel is though. I tried calling him, but he didn't answer
Yusuke: I see…
Dex: I'm getting worried about him. For what I heard, he's been doing really poorly in school recently. Not to mention his duel record has really gone down the drain. I wish I knew what was wrong with him.
Alicia: I think I know. It must have been losing Silver to that Machine Emperor. He must blame himself for what happened.
Dex: Well…it makes me sad he hasn't talked to us. Aren't we his friends?
Alicia: I don't know. I have no idea what to say to him. Even today when he asked where Leon's garage was
Yusuke: Wait. He asked where Leon's garage was.
Alicia: Yeah. Weirdest question, right? Anyway, I told him I didn't know. But he could find out using the storage garage website

Alicia: What? But I just ordered you a drink!

He gets on his D- Wheel and takes off. Alicia and Dex both look confused
Yusuke: Axel! Are you doing something stupid!?
At the track, Leon and Axel are lined up
Leon: Not too late to change your mind
Axel: I already challenged you. There's no way I'm going to quit now
Leon: I see. Well, don't blame me if you cry then.
Axel: That's my line!
Leon: Indeed? Here we go, Neo Speed World, set on
D- Wheels: Duel mode. Auto-pilot, standby
Both: Duel!
Axel vs Leon! [Axel LP = 4000][Leon LP = 4000]. Both take off from the starting line and race around the track. Axel gains a boost of speed as Leon keeps a slow pace and grins
Axel: Is he letting me go first? Hmph. He's pretty sure of himself. I'll show him an awesome starting technique! I summon Infernal Dragon [ATK 2000/DEF 0 LV 4]. I set a card and end my turn
Leon: Infernal Dragon. I see, you're trying to press me into a bad situation. Well, fair warning. As a champion, I've been pressed in far worse situations than this one. And….I've gotten out of situations like this easily! I draw [SPC: Leon = 1 Axel = 1]. As you have a monster and I have none, Level Warrior is Special Summoned. And since he was summoned this way, his level rises to 4 [ATK 300/DEF 600 LV 3-4]. Now I Normal Summon the Tuner monster Attack Gainer [ATK 0/DEF 0 LV 1]
Axel: A Tuner and a non-Tuner…no way!
Leon: It's possible. I tune my level 1 Attack Gainer and my level 4 Level Warrior
Gainer becomes 1 ring that Level flies through, becoming 4 stars [1 + 4 = 5]
Leon: Synchro Summon, Hunter Viking [ATK 2200/DEF 200 LV 5]. Now since Attack Gainer was the Tuner monster, a monster on the field loses 1000 attack points. What other target to pick but Infernal Dragon? [ATK 1000/DEF 0 LV 4]
Axel: Oh no!
Leon: Get him!
Viking opens its eyes and cleaves it in half. It blows up as Axel is almost blown away [Axel LP = 2800].
Leon: I told you kid, don't underestimate me! If you really expect to win this duel, come at me like a cornered rat! Show me this so-called power! Show me you have the resolve to learn Accel Synchro! I set two cards and end my turn
Axel: Gr…this guy really is good. Guess I shouldn't have turned a blind eye to his record. But…who knows how that guy is treating Silver right now.
He has a vision of Greg picking his teeth with the card
Greg: I'm out of toilet paper. Maybe I'll just use this…
The vision ends and Axel growls
Axel: No way! My card deserves more respect than that! I draw. [SPC: Axel = 2 Leon = 2]. As I have no monsters, I can Special Summon Vice Dragon. But if I do so, his original attack and defense points are halved. [ATK 2000-1000/DEF 2400-1200 LV 5]. Now I release him and Advance Summon Tiger Dragon [ATK 2400/DEF 1800 LV 6]. When this card is summoned by releasing a Dragon monster, two set cards are destroyed. Tiger Fire!
It shoots a fireball and destroys the two set cards. Leon doesn't even react.
Axel: It was a bluff! I knew I shouldn't have destroyed his two set cards. At least I have Tiger Dragon though. Battle! I attack! Tiger Nova!
It shoots a flamethrower. Viking is burned as Leon barely flinches at the damage [Leon LP = 3800]
Axel: How's that?! That'll teach you to look down on me! Turn end.
Leon: I'm amused. You think this low amount of damage…is enough to make me call it quits. I draw. [SPC: Leon = 3 Axel = 3]. I use the Trap card Synchro Replace in the graveyard. By removing it and Hunter Viking, I can summon a Synchro monster of a lower level from my Extra Deck. Hunter Viking was a level 5 monster. So if I remove it, I can summon the level 4 Quad-Arm Samurai [ATK 1900/DEF 700 LV 4]
Axel: That's his Synchro-Tuner. Is he…?
Leon: Relax. There's no way I'm wasting Accel Synchro on you. There's no need. I'm going to finish you off with just plain Synchro monsters. I use Speed Spell- Angel Baton. Since my Speed Counters are 2 or more, I draw 2 cards and discard one [Dark Resonator]. Now I summon Dark Bug [ATK 100/DEF 100 LV 1]. When this card is summoned, I take a level 3 Tuner monster in the graveyard and revive it. I revive Dark Resonator [ATK 1300/DEF 300 LV 3]. I tune the level 3 Dark Resonator and the level 1 Dark Bug
Resonator becomes 3 rings that Bug flies through, becoming 1 star [3 + 1 = 4]
Leon: Synchro Summon! Armory Arm [ATK 1800/DEF 1200 LV 4]. I now use the effect of Armory Arm. I can equip him to a monster on the field and raise its power by 1000. I choose Quad-Arm Samurai [ATK 2900/DEF 700 LV 4]. Let's battle! I attack Tiger Dragon. Four Sword Strike

I discard Strong Wind Dragon with 2400 attack points and negate 2400 points of damage from Armory Arm.
A strong wind blows and blocks the fist.

Axel: My turn. [SPC: Axel = 4 Leon = 4]. Damn. This isn't good. Any monster I summoned will be destroyed by Quad-Arm Samurai. And the stronger it is, the more damage I will take. I've gotta be careful here. I set a monster and a card. That ends my turn
Leon: My turn [SPC: Axel = 5 Leon = 5]. I'm growing tired of this little game. But I can't really change anything right now, so I have to keep things up. I set a card. I attack your set monster.
Samurai stabs the monster [Dread Dragon]
Leon: And now using the effect of Armory Arm, your monster's attack points are dealt to you as damage
It punches Axel in the gut and he gasps [Axel LP = 1200]
Axel: Trap card, Shed Scales. Now I can summon a Dragon monster with a level of 4 or below. I summon Magna Drago [ATK 1400/DEF 600 LV 2].
Leon: I see. So you are trying to aim for a Synchro Summon as well. But whatever you try, it's useless
Axel: My turn. [SPC: Axel = 6 Leon = 6]. Here we go! You can say whatever you want to about Leon! But I know that I can not afford to lose this duel! I summon Powered Tuner [ATK 1400/DEF 1000 LV 4]. For each Tuner monster on the field, he gains 500 attack points [ATK 1900/DEF 1000 LV 4]. However, that's not the role he needs to play. I tune my level 2 Magna Drago and my level 4 Powered Tuner

Leon: Trap card, For the Wielder. I send the equipped Armory Arm to the graveyard and let my Quad-Arm Samurai survive destruction for just this turn. [ATK 1900/DEF 700 LV 4]
Axel: Whatever! I'm going to win no matter what you try. At the end of this turn though, my monster's attack points return to normal [ATK 2400/DEF 1200 LV 6]. That ends my turn
Leon: My turn. Didn't think I would have to go all out on you. But things would be unsavory if things keep going like this. So I'll give you want Axel. I'll show you…my Accel Synchro.
Axel: What?
Leon: I activate Speed Spell- Synchro Return. This card can be used if I have 5 or more Speed Counters. This lets me summon a Synchro monster that has been removed from play. I summon Hunter Viking [ATK 2200/DEF 200 LV 5]
Axel: These two monsters….oh no!
Leon speeds up tremendously
Leon: I tune my level 4 Synchro-Tuner Quad-Arm Samurai and my level 5 Synchro monster Hunter Viking.
Leon vanishes as Samurai becomes four rings that both jump through [4 + 5 = 9]
Axel: He vanished…
Leon speeds back into sight as his monster appears
Leon: Accel Synchro! Appear, Artillery Warrior [ATK 3000/DEF 2000 LV 9]
Axel: No way…
Leon: I attack Fortress Dragon!
Artillery slowly looks up and blasts apart Fortress. Axel cries in pain as he loses life [Axel LP = 600]
Axel: Sorry, I've still got life left. You should have used Neo Speed World
Leon: Nah, that would have been overkill. Whenever Artillery Warrior destroys an opposing monster in battle, he deals that monster's attack points as damage to the opponent. Fortress Dragon had 2400 attack points. Therefore, you take 2400 points of damage
Axel: Impossible!
Leon: This is over.
Artillery blasts Axel one more time and he falls off his bike [Axel LP = 0]
Axel: So that's the strength of an Accel Synchro monster….
Leon: You lose. That means our bet stands. Sorry, but I can't teach you Accel Synchro
Axel: Gr…fight me again! I want to fight you again!
Leon: I don't want to.
Axel: Please! I'll keep fighting until I force you to teach me!
Leon: Whatever man. Look, I know how much this card means to you Axel. But this dueled proved that to you. A selfish reason like that will not be the kindling for Accel Synchro
Axel: Is that so? Then what do you fight for?
Leon: That's my secret. See you around
He drives off. Axel screams in fury and pounds the ground with his fists
Leon: Still, he was good. Maybe…the Fates were not wrong in choosing him.
On a rooftop, a figure with a staff is hidden in the shadows.
