Card of the Day: General Grunard of the Ice Barrier
Episode 246: A Duel to the Death! Yuji vs Mobius!
Yuji: It's settled. Before we go though….
He holds out his hand. Everyone looks at each other and puts their hands in the circle as well.
Yuji: Good luck everyone. Let us meet back here again as soon as we win our duels. No matter what we face, no matter what stands in our way, we will meet up here again and go home together!
They throw their arms up and run down different hallways through different doors. Yuji and his team run down a hallway with blue walls and floors. In a room that resembles a frozen tundra, Mobius sits there as he looks up.
Sir Mobius: So you've come….Yuji Ryos. This time, I will crush you….and your pride.
He grabs his sword and swings it through the air. As Yuji runs, his eyes narrow.
Yuji: No doubt. Mobius is down this way.
Opening [recap of 10th Anniversary. In the ruined world, Faith is being pursued by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Apocalypse then steals the Millennium Puzzle as Famine takes Yubel, Conquest steals the Dragon's Birthmarks, Death kidnaps Dawn, and War steals Yuji's D- Wheel. The five end up in the ruined world and go their separate ways. Judai ends up dueling Famine who summons Yubel, which Judai manages to take back, finishing him using Elemental Hero Divine Neos]
Yuji, Luna, and Hunter G continue to head down the hallway. Luna sneezes and shivers.
Hunter G: You okay?
Luna: Is it just me, or has it gotten really cold all of a sudden?
Yuji: No. It isn't just you. I've been feeling cold for some time now.
Luna: Like he's one to talk….he has both a coat and a long sleeved shirt. Br…I should have brought warmer clothes….
Yuji stops and turns to Luna, sighing and taking off his coat.
Yuji: Here.
Luna: Huh?
Yuji: Go on. I don't want you to freeze to death. Besides, I'll be fine. I've got a high metabolism.
Luna: Yuji….thanks.
She turns a little red as she puts the coat on and they keep walking, Hunter G grinning at this and thinking of the frozen Mushiro.
Hunter G: Right….this guy must be down that way.
They keep walking. As they walk, everyone begins to see their breath. They come to a large blue door.
Yuji: No doubt about it now. This is Mobius's room, for sure.
Hunter G: Well, let's not waste time and go….ah!
She touches the door handle and steps back, holding her hand.
Luna: What is it?
Hunter G: This door handle is freezing cold! I almost killed all my skin cells, even with my glove.
Yuji: No doubt, this is the right place. If we can't use the handle….this'll do!
He kicks the doors open.
Luna: Br….now it's even colder.
They walk into the room, a frozen tundra with a light snow.
Hunter G: Is this another hologram?
Luna: No, I can feel it. This is real snow.
Yuji: Look up there. There are snow machines built into the ceiling. That's what is causing this snow.
Hunter G: Who wants snow to fall in their own room?
Yuji keeps walking and sees Mobius sitting there, his back facing Yuji.
Sir Mobius: You've come….Yuji Ryos.
He throws back a sword which Yuji catches. Suddenly, Mobius turns and lunges at Yuji, drawing his sword. Yuji only has enough time to react and block his sword. Mobius jumps back and swings at him again as he and Yuji clash blades several times. Luna gasps and holds her mouth as the two keep fighting. Eventually, Mobius leaps back and slides on the ice floor, placing his sword on his arm.
Sir Mobius: You were a fool to come here. Now Yuji Ryos, get ready to fight. You will not leave this room alive!
Yuji: Fine, Mobius! I accept your challenge! Let's finish this once and for all!
He takes out his Duel Disk and activates it. He takes his deck out of his pocket and slots it in. Mobius presses a few buttons and the blade on his sword moves forward into a Duel Disk.
Both: Duel! [Sir Mobius LP = 4000] [Yuji LP = 4000].
Luna: Here we go. We need to beat this guy and take his sword.
Hunter G: Can we though? After all, he is #2 among the Knights. No doubt this guy is as tough as ever.
Sir Mobius: I'll go first. I draw. I set a monster in face down defense mode. I also set a card and end my turn.
Luna: That was good. He didn't do that much for his opening move.
Hunter G: Maybe that's not a good thing though.
Yuji: That was rather simplistic for him. No doubt. He's planning something. Here we go, draw. I summon Rev Warrior [ATK 1700/DEF 1000 LV 4]. When this card attacks a monster, he gains 500 attack points. I attack your set monster! Rev Fist [ATK 2200/DEF 1000 LV 4].
Sir Mobius: Too bad for you. My set monster is Pilgrim of the Ice Barrier [ATK 1500/DEF 1000 LV 4]. This monster can not be destroyed by monsters with 1900 or more attack points. Your monster just gained 500 attack points. That means it is too powerful to destroy my monster.
Yuji: I send Gravity Warrior to the graveyard! This lets me deal Piercing damage for this turn only when I attack a monster. Even if your monster won't be destroyed, you can't avoid Piercing damage.
The monster kicks Pilgrim. It manages to stand its ground as a strong wind almost blows Mobius away, who sticks his sword in the snow in order to stay where he stands [Sir Mobius LP = 2800].
Luna: Yes! He dealt a huge blow right away!
Hunter G: True, but his monster is still on the field. That means he'll probably use it to help Synchro Summon.
Sir Mobius: Fine, the first cut goes to you. But I'll slice off one of your limbs next turn!
Yuji: Fine. Just make sure your sword isn't too blunt. I set two cards and end my turn [ATK 1700/DEF 1000 LV 4]
Sir Mobius: How dare you….criticize my deck and call it blunt!? I'll teach you a thing or two! I draw. I use Medallion of the Ice Barrier. This lets me take an Ice Barrier monster from my deck and add it to my hand. I choose Geomancer of the Ice Barrier. Next I summon Geomancer of the Ice Barrier [ATK 800/DEF 1200 LV 3]. I tune my level 3 Geomancer of the Ice Barrier and level 4 Pilgrim of the Ice Barrier.
Geomancer becomes 3 rings that Pilgrim flies through, becoming 4 stars [3 + 4 = 7]
Sir Mobius: Listen for Gjall, the horn that heralds the end of the world and freeze it over in death. Synchro Summon! Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2500/DEF 1700 LV 7].
Yuji: I knew it. He summoned it again.
Sir Mobius: I use the effect of Gungnir! I send two cards in my hand to the graveyard. This allows me to destroy two cards you control. And now I use the Trap card Disgraceful Charity. Now I return the cards I discarded to my hand.
Luna: But if he does that, Yuji will be defenseless!
Yuji: Trap card, Thin Passage! I can negate the effect of a level 7 or higher monster.
Sir Mobius: What? Damn….fine then, I'll settle for an attack. When Rev Warrior is attacked, it loses 500 attack points. [ATK 1200/DEF 1000 LV 4].
Yuji: I was well aware of its weakness. Which is why I remove Thin Passage. This lets me negate your attack.
The ice spear it spits it blocked by an invisible barrier.
Sir Mobius: Damn. You and your shrewd tactics. Turn end. [ATK 1700/DEF 1000 LV 4]
Yuji: Looks like it's my turn now. Draw. Here we go. I summon Tuning Piece [ATK 800/DEF 600 LV 2]. I tune my level 2 Tuning Piece and level 4 Rev Warrior.
Piece becomes 2 rings that Warrior flies through, becoming 4 stars [2 + 4 = 6]
Yuji: Synchro, let's go! Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth [ATK 2600/DEF 800 LV 6]. Attack Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Spiral Shaver!
The monster races forward and charges through Gungnir. The monster roars in pain and blows up as Mobius cries out, sliding backwards [Sir Mobius LP = 2700].
Sir Mobius: Impossible….in one turn….
Yuji: You really think I was just awaiting this battle? All this time I've been training myself to match you! You may have defeated me last time. But this time, you will not come out on top! I will defeat you Mobius. Face it, you're done!
Sir Mobius: Unforgivable….this is absolutely unforgivable!
Ice and snow begins to blow from his Duel Disk and everyone holds on so they don't get blown away.
Luna: His aura just flared up in power….
Hunter G: His power seems connected to his anger. This is bad. The more damage he takes, he only becomes stronger.
Yuji: I'm not worried. As long as I can finish the duel quickly, he won't be able to do much to me. After all, he's #2 for a reason. He probably has even more power than the last time we dueled. Turn end.
Sir Mobius: Here we go. I draw. I summon Strategist of the Ice Barrier [ATK 1600/DEF 1600 LV 4]. Now I send an Ice Barrier monster in my hand to the graveyard [Beetle of the Ice Barrier] and draw a card from my deck. Now I use the Spell card Tuning. This lets me add a Tuner monster from my deck to my hand. If I choose to do this, I send the top card of my deck to the graveyard [Sacred Spirit of the Ice Barrier]. When Phantom of the Ice Barrier is added to my hand through the effect of a card, I get to Special Summon him [ATK 1200/DEF 800 LV 2]. I tune the level two Phantom of the Ice Barrier and level 4 Strategist of the Ice Barrier.
Phantom becomes 2 rings that Strategist flies through, becoming 4 stars [2 + 4 = 6]
Sir Mobius: His claws are icicles and his heart is a glacier. Devour the world with your cold heart and fangs! Synchro Summon! Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2000/DEF 1400 LV 6].
Yuji: I knew it. He Synchro Summoned right away.
Sir Mobius: Now I use the Spell card Battle Tuned. This lets me remove from play my Tuner monster and add its attack points to Dewloren's attack points. [ATK 3200/DEF 1400 LV 6]. Go, attack his Gaia! Claws of Ice!
Yuji: Trap card, Synchro Out. Now my monster turns back into his Synchro material monsters. Come back, Tuning Piece and Rev Warrior [ATK 1700/DEF 1000 LV 4] [ATK 800/DEF 600 LV 2].
Sir Mobius: Damn you! Fine, I'll wipe out your weaker monsters! It won't make a difference! I attack Tuning Piece.
The monster slashes through Tuning Piece, cutting it into pieces as it blows up.
Sir Mobius: Turn end.
Yuji: Looks like it's back to me. I draw! Luckily I was able to avoid damage. But how long can I keep this up for? He's bound to deal damage to me eventually. I'll have to deal as much damage to him as I can before that happens. I summon Spike Synchron [ATK 300/DEF 100 LV 1]. Once per turn, he deals 300 points of damage to you.
It spits out spikes at Mobius as he steps back [Sir Mobius LP = 2400]
Yuji: Now I tune my level 1 Spike Synchron and level 4 Rev Warrior.
Synchron becomes 1 ring that Warrior flies through, becoming 4 stars [1 + 4 = 5]
Yuji: Synchro Summon, Spike Warrior [ATK 2400/DEF 900 LV 5]. Once per turn, I deal 500 points to the opponent.
It points its cannon and fires rapidly, knocking Mobius back further [Sir Mobius LP = 1900]
Sir Mobius: Coward….won't you actually fight me?!
Luna: His monster is too weak to destroy that Dewloren.
Hunter G: Maybe so, but he keeps dueling rapid fire damage. If he keeps this up, he'll win in no time.
Yuji: Now I equip him with Axe of Despair. This raises the attack points of a monster on the field by 1000. I choose Spike Warrior [ATK 3400/DEF 900 LV 5]. Now attack his Dewloren! Despair Slash!
It leaps high into the air. Dewloren looks up as Spike goes down, chopping its head off and making it blow up [Sir Mobius LP = 1700]
Sir Mobius: Impossible….how can I lose to such the extent I am now?! Me, who is #2 among the Knights?!
Yuji: You're really supposed to be #2? Maybe you aren't as powerful as you claim to be. I end my turn.
Sir Mobius: How dare you….how dare you insult me? I'll punish you. You must be punished for your insolence!
Yuji: Tell me something. Are all you Knights this long-winded?
Sir Mobius: You…you are truly scum! You aren't even good enough to stick to my boots! I draw! I set a monster and a card to end my turn.
Yuji: If I'm not even a good excuse for scum, how come you are losing so badly? What does that make you then?
Sir Mobius: Would you quit insulting me?! What gives you the right to act so stuck-up all the time?!
Yuji: If you want me to stop, then make me stop! I draw. I use the effect of Spike Warrior and deal another 500 points of damage to you.
Spike turns away form Mobius and points its gun arm back, firing more spikes at Mobius as he breaks each one with a second sword, stepping back [Sir Mobius LP = 1200]
Hunter G: He's almost lost ¾ of his life points. Finish him off Yuji. Make him pay for what he did to Mushiro.
Yuji: I attack your set monster. Needle Storm!
The monster shoots spikes again and wipes out the monster
Sir Mobius: When Blizzed, Defender of the Ice Barrier is destroyed, I draw.
Yuji: I set a card and end my turn.
Sir Mobius: Unforgivable….unforgivable….I won't forgive you! No one will make a fool out of me! No one!
He screams and even more snow and ice begins to blow around the room. Hunter G and Luna huddle so they aren't blown away as Yuji steps forward against the wind.
Sir Mobius: I draw! Trap card, Common Charity. This lets me draw 2 cards. Next I select a Normal monster and remove it from play [Water Spirit]. Next I use Pot of Greed. This lets me draw two more cards from my deck. And now I use Pot of Avarice!
Yuji: What? Another draw card? What exactly are you searching for?
Sir Mobius: Using Pot of Avarice, I take five monsters from my graveyard and put them back into my deck. Next I reshuffle and draw 2 cards. Yes. Now everything is perfect.
Yuji: What? What did he draw?
Sir Mobius: I use the Field Spell, Kingdom of Ice.
A palace appears in the middle of the ice field, glistening with the falling snow.
Luna: Pretty….
Hunter G: Yeah….but I don't like where this is going.
Sir Mobius: With this card out, all Ice Barrier monsters can be summoned using one less Tribute.
Yuji: What?! So that was your goal!?
Sir Mobius: A true warrior has more than one duel strategy. You think I got this title through one type of monster?
Yuji: Damn…I shouldn't have assumed Synchro was his only talent.
Sir Mobius: Now since my monsters of a lower level, I can summon these monsters much easier. I use the Spell card Magic Triangle of the Ice Barrier. I have three different Ice Barrier monsters in my hand [General Grunard of the Ice Barrier, General Raiho of the Ice Barrier, and General Gantala of the Ice Barrier] which gives me the power to destroy your Axe of Despair.
Yuji: My monster grows weaker now… [ATK 2400/DEF 900 LV 5]
Luna: But without that, he's defenseless!
Hunter G: Damn. This Mobius guy has planned everything.
Sir Mobius: I would not take the risk with your set monster. I'm going to crush you, completely and utterly, whether or not you have any ability to protect yourself. Using the effect of Magic Triangle of the Ice Barrier, I can summon this monster from my hand. I summon General Grunard of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2800/DEF 1000 LV 8]. Grunard lets me summon a second monster. I summon General Raiho of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2100/DEF 2300 LV 6]. Grunard, attack his monster.
Grunard twirls its lance around and lunges, ripping out Spike Warrior's spike and rips it apart. Yuji flinches from the sheer force of the attack [Yuji LP = 3600]
Yuji: A physical blow….but it's much stronger than last time.
Sir Mobius: I've been training as well. My skills and my aura. To be strong enough to tear you to pieces the next time we met. Now my General Raiho can attack you directly. Shot of Ice.
It holds out its hand and shoots a ball of ice, hitting Yuji in the chest and sending him flying back into the snow where he rolls and coughs, shivering [Yuji LP = 1500]
Luna: Yuji! Get up, please!
Yuji struggles to stand and stumbles as he vomits blood.
Yuji: Damn…that attack really messed up my innards.
Sir Mobius: I already said it. But now I'll say it a second time. I will say it again. You will die Yuji Ryos. Give into the cold…and slip into death.
Yuji: Not a chance…in fiery hell!
He stands as Mobius glares at him. Luna and Hunter G watch as Yuji still looks determined.
Ending [recap of 10th Anniversary. Yusei races down the road after Conquest. Yusei takes back his Dragon's Birthmark and summons Majestic Star Dragon, destroying Conquest. Ethan battles against Death, summoning Blitzwing Inferno Dragon. Yuji races after War and summons Giga- Tech Ptera/Assault Mode, destroying War and taking back his D- Wheel. Lastly, Yugi battles against Apocalypse, destroying his most powerful creature. The five say their farewells and put their hands in a circle]
