Card of the Day: Caravan of the Ice Barrier
Episode 247: Zero vs Max!
In the room, ice and snow begins to swirl around even faster. Yuji is standing there breathing deeply as he has no cards on his field [Yuji LP = 1500]. Sir Mobius stands there with his cape billowing in the wind with General Grunard of the Ice [ATK 2800/DEF 1000 LV 8], General Raiho of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2100/DEF 2300 LV 6], and the Field Spell Kingdom of Ice [Sir Mobius LP = 1200]. Luna and Hunter G are still watching the duel. Everyone suddenly jumps when the castle starts shaking.
Luna: Whoa…what was that?
Sir Mobius: So the other battles have started now.
Yuji: Other battles? So everyone else has begun fighting as well?
Sir Mobius: That is all there is to it now. At the end of this day, one side will stand and the other shall lie on the ground. Which side is it going to be? Let's find out. Either way, one of our frozen corpses will be proof of that.
Yuji: Right. Let's go, Mobius! Let's finish this once and for all!
Opening [recap of season 4. Yuji rides down the road at night as Leo appears; challenging him and the constellation appears. The Constellation Demon appears and roars as Yuji destroys it. Yuji and Luna then up fighting the Gemini twins who summon their Demon as Synchro Lord destroys both. Luna then rides down the road and fights Raythe. Artemis appears and steals the Star Key, fighting Yuji. Corvus then appears fighting Raythe as his true face appears and he finishes Raythe. Enzan fights again Pisces, managing to destroy her Demon. Luna then races down the road to fight Taurus, using Assault Mode to win. Takimaru fights Scorpius and is soundly defeated. Raythe is in Froesta Town and fights Ursa Major. Cain arrives and battles against Orion. Tyson and Alice end up fighting Sagittarius and Pegasus on top of a building. Enzan and Draco race down a road as Draco wipes out Enzan. Yuji and Draco then race down a road, Void Dragon and Dragon Overlord Draco appearing as Yuji Fusion Summons Messiah Mechanical Dragon. Raythe heads into a forest and up a mountain where he loses to Gate Guardian, taking a card. Tyson is captured as Alice fights Cygnus and loses. Alice and Tyson fight both Delphi and Cancer as they summon their Demons. Artemis arrives to speak with them as Takimaru challenges Lyla, who reveals herself as Lyra]
Yuji: Here we go Mobius, I draw! Damn….I set a monster, a card, and end my turn.
Sir Mobius: That's all? Pitiful. Here we go, draw. As my Field Spell limits all Release costs by 1, I can release General Raiho of the Ice Barrier and summon General Gantala of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2700/DEF 2000 LV 7]. I couldn't summon him last turn as my Kingdom of Ice has a limit of one Special Summon per turn.
Yuji: One Special Summon per turn? But he uses a Synchro deck. Having only one Special Summon per turn would really mess up his strategy. What's he thinking?
Sir Mobius: Now I use the power of Grunard. Once per turn, I can summon another monster form my hand. And since my Kingdom of Ice limits the number of Tributes by 1, I can summon this monster. Come on, Dai-sojo of the Ice Barrier [ATK 1600/DEF 2200 LV 6]. It's time to battle. General Grunard attacks.
It shoots ice that destroys the set monster [Trap Genius]
Sir Mobius: General Gantala, direct attack!
Yuji: Trap card, Defense Draw! I negate all damage I take from this attack and draw a card.
The attack is blocked by a barrier.
Sir Mobius: Then I attack with Dai-sojo of the Ice Barrier.
Yuji: I remove Trap Genius and Defense Draw. Now I can use the effect of Defense Draw again.
A barrier blocks the attack.
Sir Mobius: You coward! Stop hiding behind your Trap cards! Fine, whatever. I'll keep attacking until your puny resistance crumbles. Turn end. At this time, the effect of General Gantala allows me to revive an Ice Barrier monster. I bring back General Raiho of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2100/DEF 2300 LV 6].
Hunter G: So he didn't summon a monster last turn so he could use Gantala and revive another monster for a total of 4 monsters.
Luna: So his deck isn't just based around Synchro Summon. He's…really strong.
Luna grips the coat tighter as Yuji looks through the corner of his eyes.
Yuji: Luna…keep that coat for me. Once I'm done with this duel, I'm really going to need it. After all, it's really getting cold in here.
Luna: Yuji….right, I understand!
Sir Mobius: Are you done flirting with your woman? We are in the middle of a fight here. Save it for your final dying words.
Yuji: Alright, I got you. I should focus all my attention on winning this duel. Here we go, I draw! Kuriboh. I'm counting on you buddy. I'll need you to keep my alive for one more turn. I summon Mach Kuriboh in defense mode [ATK 300/DEF 200 LV 1]. Turn end.
Sir Mobius: How pathetic. If that is the best you can do, I might as well put you out of your misery. I draw. I set a card. Now let's battle. Dai-sojo of the Ice Barrier attacks your Mach Kuriboh.
It holds out its hand and blasts ice from it, destroying Kuriboh.
Yuji: During the turn Mach Kuriboh is destroyed, I don't take any damage for the rest of the turn.
Sir Mobius: Hmph. Too bad for you. General Raiho of the Ice Barrier also has an effect. To use your monster effects, you must discard a card in your hand.
Yuji: No problem. I discard Tricky Goblin and allow Kuriboh to use his effect. Now all damage this turn is blocked after all.
Sir Mobius: Fine. If I can't deal any damage this turn, then I'll have to end my turn. Enjoy this brief intermission. For it shall be your last. I end my turn. At this time, the effect of General Gantala of the Ice Barrier lets me revive an Ice Barrier monster. I choose you. Arise, Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2500/DEF 1700 LV 7]. Now do you see? Yuji: This doesn't look bad…but that doesn't mean I'll give up.

Yuji: Here we go, I draw! I use Angel Baton. This allows me to draw 2 cards and discard one. As Card Vendor was sent to the graveyard, I draw another card. Mobius….now begins my counterattack!
Sir Mobius: What was that? You believe you can still come back for a win? How foolish.
Yuji: You're really so doubtful? Then I'll show you…by destroying all five your monsters this turn!
Hunter G: He's not just boasting right? Can he really wipe out five monsters in one turn?
Luna: Yuji….are you planning something?
Yuji: I use the Spell card Synchro Representation. I discard one monster in my hand first [Void Dragon]. Now I equip this to one Synchro monster in my Extra Deck and instantly summon it to the field. Come on out, Giga- Tech Ptera [ATK 3000/DEF 2500 LV 8]. As you know, this monster has the power to attack all monsters on my opponent's side of the field.
Sir Mobius: What?! Impossible! All my monsters….
Luna: Yes! And with 3000 attack points, he can win the duel!
Yuji: Let's end this petty squabble Mobius. Ptera, strike down all five of his monsters. Soaring Swoop!
Sir Mobius: Impossible!
Ptera flies high into the sky and puts its wings to its side, charging straight down towards Mobius. It crashes into his field and blows up, destroying all five monsters.
Hunter G: Did that…do it?
The smoke clears as Mobius stands there, not affected at all.
Sir Mobius: Trap card, Water Cycle. This turn, no damage is dealt to either player. For each monster we lose this turn, we get to draw a card in retribution. If I'm right, you took out five of my monsters. Which means I draw 5 cards.
Yuji: Damn….I just refilled his hand.
Sir Mobius: If I do this, all cards on my field are destroyed. That means my Kingdom of Ice is destroyed. However, there is one downside. You get to draw 2 cards.
Yuji: Why would he destroy his own Field Spell? Is he going to try something else now? His goal must be….I set 2 cards and end my turn.
Sir Mobius: Time to show you once and for all who is boss. I draw. Spell card, Light Snow. This lets me take a level 3 or below WATER monster from my deck and Special Summon him to the field. I choose you. Come on, Caravan of the Ice Barrier [ATK 500/DEF 200 LV 1]. Next I use the Spell card Ice Mirror. This lets me summon a level 3 or below WATER monster from my deck with the same name as a monster on my field. And now….another Ice Mirror.
Luna: Another one?!
Hunter G: I knew it…..he's going to….
Sir Mobius: I summon a third Caravan of the Ice Barrier [ATK 500/DEF 200 LV 1]. Next I summon Dewdark of the Ice Barrier [ATK 1200/DEF 800 LV 2]. And now the grand finale. I use Double Summon. This lets me summon another monster form my hand. I summon Salvagent [ATK 300/DEF 800 LV 2]. By sending this card to the graveyard, I revive a Synchro monster. But it is not counted as a Synchro monster and its effect is negated. In other words, it comes back to the field as a Normal monster. I summon my Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier [ATK 2500/DEF 1700 LV 7].
Yuji: I knew it. Five monsters and all their levels add up to the number 12. His Creator…
Luna: No….he can't have it!
Sir Mobius: There is no other way you can way this duel. This is the end for you. I tune my level 7 Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, level 2 Dewdark of the Ice Barrier, and all 3 level 1 Caravans of the Ice Barrier.
Dewdark becomes 2 rings that Gungnir and all 3 Caravans fly through, becoming 10 stars [2 + 1 + 7 + 1 + 1 = 12].
Sir Mobius: The time has come. This world will face a judgment of equal equivalent to hell. Burn in ice so cold that it sears the earth. Limit Over Synchro! Show the world your ice cold fangs, Creator of Ice- Frosteller!
A tornado of snow and ice swirls as a large monster is inside of it. It opens its eyes and dispels the storm, shrinking in size to fit in the room and roars [ATK 5000/DEF 5000 LV 12].
Yuji: Creator of Ice….Frosteller. It's still the same as ever. My knees are knocking….they want me to fall over….but I won't. I'm not going to bow to it.
Sir Mobius: I will at least give you a fighting chance. By returning 4 Ice Barrier monsters to my deck, I get to draw 2 cards from my deck.
Yuji: Drawing? That must mean you have no good cards to play. That means you must really take me seriously.
Sir Mobius: You won't be alive to relish in it. I'll put an end to this. I attack with my Creator. Let the funeral music play!
Frosteller's eyes glow as it lifts its club, smashing through Ptera as it blows up, creating a huge dust cloud. Luna tears up and runs forward as Hunter G holds her back.
Luna: Yuji! No, Yuji!
Hunter G: Yuji!
Sir Mobius: He's dead.
Luna turns and begins to tear up more as Mobius turns.
Sir Mobius: I have nothing else to prove now.
Yuji: Don't….start rumors about me.
He is standing grinning in the snow.
Luna: You're okay!
Sir Mobius: How….how?! Spell and Trap cards can't touch Frosteller!
Yuji: True, they can't touch Frosteller. Before the battle even started, I used Lose and Gain to send a card from my deck to the grave and draw a card. As it so happens, I sent Gear Necromancer to the graveyard to draw. Then I removed him to negate the damage from our battle. And since the monster summoned through Synchro Representation was destroyed, I get to summon back the monster I discarded. I will summon you, Void Dragon [ATK 2500/DEF 2000 LV 8]
Sir Mobius: You….you just won't die, will you?
Yuji: That doesn't work with me, sorry.
Sir Mobius: I set two cards and end my turn.
Yuji: Everything depends on this draw. Here we go! I draw. Next I use Spell Books From the Pot. This lets us both draw 3 cards from our decks.
Sir Mobius: Do you truly believe drawing cards is going to help you?! No matter what you draw, nothing will make a difference! You can't face my Creator! You are doomed to die in this ice field! Why can't you see that?! Why do you deny what you know to be true?!
Yuji: I do it because I know it isn't true. As long as you don't give up, nothing can stop you. If you let fear and doubt get to you, then you are bound to lose every duel. Only someone who keeps going in spite of the fear is strong! And I'll show you that with these last three cards!
He draws as he deck begins to draw.
Sir Mobius: I use Mystical Space Typhoon, which I just drew. I destroy your face down card.
Yuji: Power Collapse. I remove from play one monster Rev Warrior and summon monsters from my deck whose levels add up to that. Come, Mach Kuriboh and Blade Synchron [ATK 1300/DEF 0 LV 3] [ATK 300/DEF 200 LV 1]
Yuji: I drew them. Here we go Mobius! I reverse the level of my monster and summon Agent of Seven [ATK 0/DEF 0 LV 8] [ATK 2500/DEF 2000 LV -8]. Now I tune the level 8 Agent of Seven and the level -8 Void Dragon!
Agent becomes 8 rings and Void flies through them, becoming 8 black stars [8 + -8 = 0]
Yuji: Zero Synchro! Empty Void Dragon [ATK 3300/DEF 2500 LV 0].
Sir Mobius: Bring it on! Your monster's level is 0, the lowest! Mine is the max!
Yuji: Here we go! I tune my level 3 Blade Synchron and level 1 Mach Kuriboh.
Synchron becomes 3 rings that Kuriboh flies through, becoming 1 star [3 + 1 = 4]
Yuji: Synchro Summon! Evolve and Accel, Iron Mach Kuriboh [ATK 1500/DEF 1000 LV 4]. And now for Void Dragon's effect! I destroy all Spell and Trap cards. For each one, he gains 500 attack points. Empty Eat!
Sir Mobius: Driving Snow and Mirror Force….
Yuji: [ATK 4300/DEF 2500 LV 0]. Now I equip Iron Mach Kuriboh to him, raising his attack and defense points by 1000. Go, combine your powers!
Kuriboh leaps onto its back, the rockets growing [ATK 5300/DEF 2500 LV 0]
Luna: It's surpassed the Creator!
Yuji: Battle! Empty Void Dragon attacks your monster. Hollow Hole Beam!
Sir Mobius: I won't….stand for this! I won't lose! I use Rush Recklessly! This powers up my monster by 700 points [ATK 5700/DEF 5000 LV 12]. Counterattack, Ice Age Blizzard!
The two attacks collide in midair as massive amounts of energy radiate through the area as both snarl.
Yuji: I discard Arrowhead Warrior. This powers up my monster by 700 points [ATK 6000/DEF 2500 LV 0].
Sir Mobius: No!
He draws his sword and rushes towards Yuji as he blocks the sword with his own.
Sir Mobius: I can't lose to you! I would rather die than be disgraced in such a manner! I use the Spell card Great Charge. I pay half my life points to double the original attack points of a monster [ATK 10700/DEF 5000 LV 12].
The two monsters keep firing their attacks as Yuji and Mobius keep trying to push the other over.
Luna: You can do it! Keep it up!
Hunter G: Don't lose!
Sir Mobius: I can't lose this duel! I must not let the King down, no matter what! I….who grew up all alone, born and lived on an ice field. The crushing loneliness….the great despair….nothing to look forward to but falling snow. The world as blank and unclear as the snow I lived in. Until the King found me and gave me this reason for living. And I must not let that reason go to waste! Never! I'll never let him down as long as my heart beats!
He recalls lying on an ice field when the King walks up to him, holding a hand and Mobius screams, pushing Yuji back.
Yuji: I understand you Mobius. You have people who count on you. People you feel like you must fight for. You and I are not so different after all. But I also have people I must count on. And people who count on me. This is why….I will win this duel! Spell card, Last Chance! This lets me flip a coin. If the result is heads, my monster's power is doubled or tripled. If Tails, my monster is destroyed and I take 2000 damage. Let's go, coin toss!
The card begins to spin as both monsters continue to battle. Everyone watches as it comes up heads.
Sir Mobius: No way!
Yuji: Now my monster's power is tripled [ATK 18000/DEF 2500 LV 0]. Finish this!
The two monsters continue to attack as Void's attack grows much bigger and pushes the other attack back, hitting Frosteller.
Sir Mobius: Impossible! [Sir Mobius LP = 0].
In the main room, everyone else waits when the building shakes again. An explosion rips the wall as Mobius tumbles out.
Raythe: What the hell?!
Yuji, Luna, and Hunter G walk out. Mobius gets on his knees and holds his sword to his neck.
Sir Mobius: I've lost…..only death can remove this wound to my honor.
He gulps and prepares to stab when Yuji kicks the sword away.
Yuji: I never thought you were that cowardly. To try to avoid defeat with death.
Sir Mobius: Be silent! You don't understand! A knight must always serve his king, no matter what! If I lose, what kind of knight am I?! If my only purpose can't be fulfilled, why should I even stay alive?!
Yuji: ….There's more to being a knight than just serving a king, isn't there? True, a knight should serve a king. But they also need to be there for their brothers and the people. Look around you Mobius. Should knights cause people this much pain? Is serving a king worth this much?
Sir Granmarg: He's right Mobius.
Granmarg and the other knights walk up.
Sir Granmarg: As knights our duty is to protect the weak and stop evil. But we've lost our way by working with the King. Mobius…we must help them.
Sir Mobius: But….I've never taken a step without the king….
Yuji: That's fine. We'll be right there to help you out. The road ahead may seem scary….but all you have to do is take one step.
Sir Mobius: Yuji…..Ryos…
He holds out his hand. Mobius reaches for it when the doors open and dark wind shoots out. Everyone is blown away as Chaos King stands there. All 10 Creator cards appear around him.
Chaos King: You've all done excellently. I can't thank you enough. But now your services are no longer required. You can go ahead and perish with the rest of the world.
He holds up his arms as all 10 cards shoot out light. The Chaos behind the king filters out and blends with it, forming a card in the middle.
Yuji: What the….hell is he doing?!
