When I played Farcry for the first time I was not a homeschooled kid in a nowhere town in Newzealand, I was not dealing with puberty, tryng desperatly to get a girlfriend or looking for my parents respect. I was jack carver.... A mercenary of sorts, trying to save himself from an island swarming with mercenaries, eventually I was tasked with saving the damsel in distress, and saving the known free world from hideous mutant primates and humans.
now if you were to live One story what would it be? The geeky teen, or the handsome ex navy-seal fighting with the CIA to save the world?
now dont get me wrong, i enjoy my life, sure it has its ups and downs, but when it boils down to it life invideogames can be far more interesting than in real life.
when i play a game(rainbow six vegas for example) I am making a difference in the world by-proxy of me and my crack team of specialists.
and i thinks its a good thing, sure people can become addicted to gaming. world of warcraft was a big one for a lot of people. WoW did not count on looks or fitness. WoWwas a world where a guy like me could be a mighty warrior and have respect from peers who had never seen his face.
When i hear people talk about school shootings and murder sprees you really have to take a second look, and not from the mainstream media's view point.
My mother has claimed that most people who have commited school shootings had played the infamous DOOM. Did anyone ever realize that %90 of males in their teens had played the game anyway. Its like claiming that people who drink water die. it technically correct but entirely not related

Controversy

Doom highly controversial.
Doom was and remains notorious for its high levels of violence, gore, and satanic imagery, which have generated much controversy from a broad range of groups. Yahoo! Games has it listed as one of the top ten controversial games of all time.[15] It has been criticized numerous times by religious organizations for its diabolic undertones and was dubbed a "mass murder simulator" by critic and Killology Research Group founder David Grossman.[16] Doom prompted fears that the then-emerging virtual reality technology could be used to simulate extremely realistic killing, and in 1994 led to unsuccessful attempts by Washington state senator Phil Talmadge to introduce compulsory licensing of VR use.[citation needed]
The game again sparked controversy throughout a period of school shootings in the United States when it was found that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who committed the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, were avid players of the game. While planning for the massacre, Harris said that the killing would be "like **** Doom" and that his shotgun was "straight out of" the game.[17] A rumor spread afterwards that Harris had designed Doom levels that looked like the halls of the high school, populated with representations of Harris's ****ates and teachers, and that Harris practiced for his role in the shootings by playing these levels over and over. Although Harris did design Doom levels, they were not simulations of Columbine High School.

"While Doom and other violent video games have been blamed for nation-wide school shootings, recent research featured by Greater Good Science Center[18] shows that the two are not closely related. Harvard medical school researchers Cheryl Olson and Lawrence Kutner found that violent video games did not correlate to school shootings. The U.S. Secret Service and Department of Education analyzed 37 incidents of school violence and sought to develop a profile of school shooters, they discovered that the most common traits among shooters were that they were male and had histories of depression and attempted suicide. While many of the killers- like the vast majority of young males- did play video games, this study did not find a relationship between game play and school shootings. In fact, only one eighth of the shooters showed any special interest in violent video games, far less that the number of shooters who seemed attracted to books and movies with violent content."

But I Digress.
when i feel angry, agitated, or downright depressed. Instead of taking aner out on my parents or my sister. i just play a videogame, i belive (in the exception of counter strike)
that i can vent my frustration on the Combine from half life, Or go on a fun filled spree of carnage in destroy all humans. i mena when am i gonna use telekinesis to hurl a chicken at a cow?
gaming is like hitting the cusion, when some people get frustrated, they hit a cusion and take thier anger out on, video games can be a more sophisticated form.
I would go so far as to say(im probably gonna get some hate from anti-gamers here) that videogames can keep people from going postal.
online games are another example ...there are clan, a form of community where people can have friend because of theirpersonality, and in such an asthetic world gaming can be the savior of all the poeple who find themselves unatractive.
for me personally game have been allmost the one thing that has kept me sane.
