Here we go again people. I have a serious problem with the way I have been treated from the Sony Customer Service personnel. I have been fighting a constant battle on my PS3. Allow me to make one thing clear right off the get-go here, DON'T PLAY PLAYSTATION ONE GAMES ON YOUR PS3, IT IS JUST SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR DISASTER. As I found out myself the hard way, and in the worst way possible, PSX games just don't run adiquately on the high-end system. Here is my story: I was going through my ever growing game collection which I just happen to keep on a handy, organized Excel spreadsheet that I wish I could upload somehow, and wondered if I should take on the challenge of conquering one of my unconquered RPG games. My immediate thought was Star Ocean III, just because it is on the PS2 and that is what I was looking at at the time. Then I thought well I can't do that, I would need to play Star Ocean: Second Story first. That thought led to the thought of hours upon hours upon hours to get through that so my thoughts turned to Chrono Cross. I have previously defeated Chrono Trigger in quite a few different ways so Chrono Cross wasn't such a bad idea. So I transfered my RPG memory card via my PS3 memory card adaptor onto my hard drive and put the game in and got under way. Nothing immediate promted me to think that this was a horrible mistake, however it was. After a little while through the game I came into a boss battle and as I was fighting this boss battle the game froze. IT FROZE. I thought, hmmmm, well that sucks. Restarted the game and I was back underway. I managed to get through the fight no problem second time through but I thought that it was peculiar since it was a PS3 and all. FYI, the game is brand new, so scratches are not a valid excuse for the freeze. So I am crusing through the game and I got to another boss battle and it froze again. This time it froze the second time too. It may be worth mentioning that ithe way it freezes, if you are familiar with Chrono Cross, when a charactor is using an elemental attack they charge up a little energy before the attack itself is unleashed. While during this brief two second charge up period, that is where it will freeze and they will just charge and charge and charge endlessly. So I thought, Wow this really blows. I tried sever times to get through the fight, but if it wouldn't freeze on one charactor, it would freeze on a different one. Even the enemy would freeze it at times. Imagine my frustration. Well I finally made it through, though I had to try to limit my usage of elements and that made it really hard, and everything was well in the world again. But now I knew that I was in for a fight. Over the course of the game I have identified six to seven times where it freezes, specific battles, or areas where it just freezes the game up. That is REDICULIOUS there is no reason why the emotion engine can't work half as well as it does in the PS2 in the PS3, Infact there should be TWICE AS MANY EMOTIONS then the old PS2. Okay so I email the CustServ at Playstation.com and tell them my story and ask them ONE simple question. I ask them, "Will there be future support for transferring PS/PS2 game save files from the PS3 hard drive back to an original PS/PS2 memory card?" Simple question no? Apparently not cause the first response was like this here, "We are sorry you are expiriencing these problems. Chrono Cross is published under a third party publisher, please contact them for assistance..." Yea, this is what really pisses me off. THE MORON DIDN'T EVEN READ MY EMAIL!! DAMN DUDE WHAT DO THEY PAY YOU FOR!!!! So I emailed back with the reference number and said," Clearly, this Joseph who is supposedly a multimedai specialist, has trouble reading, for it is obvious to me that he didn't read my email, therefore I would like someone to answer my original question, I am not going to ask it again because I assume that with this email reference number you gave me ******** that you can look it up." Thats about how I said it and here is the response they sent me. "We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. The most effective way for us to assist you is by speaking with you directly. Please call our Consumer Services Department at..." Okay so why is it that NO ONE CAN ANSWER A SIMPLE QUESTION, so I said, Why do I need to call you to get you to answer my very simple question. I don't think that this is nessecary. Nor is it convinient for me to do so therefore I will ask my question again in more specific terms to get through to you..." Something like that, I assure you while fighting to play Chrono Cross and dealing with imbiciles over at CustServ, I was losing my patience. I got this reply: "To use saved data on a Memory Card for PlayStation(R) or PS one(TM) or Memory Card(8MB)(for
PlayStation(R)2), you must copy the data onto a internal memory card within the hard disk on the
PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system. This requires a PlayStation 2/PSone Memory Card
adaptor (SCPH-98042, sold separately) to copy the data to your PLAYSTATION 3 system.
To create an Internal Memory Card follow the instructions below.
1. Navigate to the Game icon on the home menu. Use the direction arrow and navigate to "Memory Card
Utility(PS/PS2)" and press the X button.
2. This will bring up "New Internal Memory Card" option. Press the X button.
3. This will prompt you to choose "Internal Memory Card(PS2)" or "Internal Memory Card(PS)".
Highlight which even option you wish to create an Internal Memory Card for and press the X button.
4. You may now enter a name for the Internal Memory Card. Press the X button to bring up the
on-screen keyboard. Once you are done naming the Internal Memory Card highlight "OK" and press the
X button to finish creating the memory card. The PLAYSTATION(R)3 system will assign it to the first
available slot.
NOTE: If a PS one or PlayStation 2 format title is inserted into the PLAYSTATION(R)3 system and no
Internal Memory Card is detected, the PLAYSTATION(R)3 system will ask you if you wish to create one.
Please note that you will only be able to save data from the PlayStation 2/PSone Memory Card adaptor
to the PLAYSTATION 3 system, but you will not be able to save data back to a Memory Card using the
Memory Card Adaptor. We do not have any information whether this function will be available in the
future. In addition, certain save files may be copy protected and therefore will not be
transferrable.
Now let me show you what I think was their attempt at answering my question...
you will not be able to save data back to a Memory Card using the Memory Card Adaptor. We do not have any information whether this function will be available in the future.
WOW. Do you think I should have just got a Wii instead?? All this work for a simple shrug of the shoulders, "Uh...I dunno" Sony, Come on, I have been supporting you through thick and thin and my PS2 is my best friend but something has to be done. This is rediculious. AND DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THE WORST PART OF IT ALL???? I CAN'T EVEN FINISH CHRONO CROSS. The final battle against Lavos freazes every single time Lavos uses an elemental attack, which is every single time the battle starts. DAMN IT!!! Never play a PS game on your PS3 much less one that requres alot of time and energy. I got screwed in the end, lesson learned. Over 'n' out.
