In my opinion FFXII is far from a "masterpiece" As many have stated above. It was a good game, but masterpiece is to strong of a word. Its story was ok, But for the most part the characters were, for lack of a better word, bad. With that said, My opinion of the game is that it was step in the right direction for the FF series, My favorite parts of the games were the battles, and I loved the level system. Not being held to one specific weapon helped to make it easier to make them what YOU wanted them to be. I liked this.
As I played through the game I found that their was to much fluctuation between easy, and hard. There were times when I tore through countless enemies with swift ease, and then there were times when I struggled with one. Now this wasnt a bad thing, But a more stable enemy selection would have pushed my opinion about this game to a higher level.
Now for the Characters. For the most part, I liked Basch, and Balthier, Fran was also an enjoyable character. But for the rest of them, they were a bit to corny to say the least. As I worked my way through the story I found many ties to characters from former FF's. Now once again I'm not saying this is bad, but to me it was a tad unoriginal. Leaving me in wonderment as to why more couldnt have been done to make them into their own characters, and not mirror images of characters from former games. Vaan was a major one, A lot like Zidane at times, and also giving me the image of Tidas at times as well.
So with that said, It was a step in the right direction, Clearly better than FFX, But it left much to be desired.
They are enjoyable on any level of gamer because of their indepth story, good graphics, and outstanding gameplay.
But it seems as though the question asked was why "I" enjoy them. Basically for the same reasons as stated above. Althgough I do have diffirent reasons behind my playing Final Fantasy. My main reason is the temporary escape from the real world. To be included in a large story where you get a genuine interest in the characters. In my honest opinion, a good game consists of more than just it being a playable game, there has to be a connection between you, and the characters within the game. This of course causes emotion for the characters on a more personal level. Giving you the same feelings as them, only adding to the enjoyment itself.
And no other game I have played has done this as well as a Final Fantasy game. So this would be my reasoning behind my love of FF.
