@RSM-HQ, @davillian-, @bigfootpart2: Thanks to all of you guys for responding and helping me out with this. I'm still debating on it in my mind but I think i'm starting to side towards just keeping the PS4 as my main system and just spending £200 to get my old HP desktop repaired. It's not as much hassle as trying to set up a gaming pc and with the prices the way they are for graphic cards, maybe i'll give it a couple of years until the next generation of consoles come out and make a purchase then.

Again thank you all for your help

Hi all and thanks for coming to view my post.

As you can see by the title I am stuck in a bit of a bind and I wanted some unbiased opinions. This is the only place in the forums I could think of posting but if anyone has any recommendations for a better place to post this on or off the website, then feel free to post it below.

Anyway I will give you guys a little backstory on the events leading up to this and my personal preferences for gaming.

About a week ago, my main pc that I use to watch youtube videos and Netflix on (amongst other things…) died. From what I gathered from the guy in the repair store I visited, the motherboard broke and that might not even be the extent of the damage since he needs to fix that to see what else broke. I hadn’t expected this to happen even though the PC was about 4 years old now and it was a hand me down from my aunt (the model is a HP ENVY phoenix for anyone wanting to know) so I was a bit confused as to what I wanted to do. I could spend around £200 - £400 to get it fixed (I live in the UK btw) or I could spend some more money and get all the parts I need to build a gaming pc. Even though money isn’t really an issue, I would still like not to spend over £1200 on the core parts but I would still like a pretty good pc that’s able to run games at 60fps at least. I also still had a decent screen from my old pc and a decent mouse and keyboard that I could use. My only issue with building a pc myself is that I’m not very computer savvy especially with hardware or setting up the software however I have watched a few vids and read a couple of articles on building pcs and for the most part it looks pretty easy as long as I have the right parts. For the parts I would need I decided to get the parts for the quad HD gaming pc from this website - http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/best-gaming-pc-2993099 (It’s about midway down the page).

I’ve always been a console gamer since my ps2 going through the ps2 to the xbox 360 and then my ps4 which I currently play all of my games on. PC gaming has been an interest to me for a couple of years now but I have never taken any steps towards progressing in that direction mainly because I am lazy and I never really felt like I particularly needed a gaming pc even though I was always jealous of mods and stuff. I like to play mainly the “triple A” releases and I enjoy going for the platinum trophy in games (yes I’m that type of person). I don’t really have much of a problem moving to mainly pc gaming as I don’t mind buying new games for it but a couple of minor (and probably silly) things are preventing me from fully committing to the idea.

First is that all my friends and trophies are on psn although this is really a minor thing because I don’t really play with anyone on a continuous basis anyway and trophies are trophies (I really just use them to feel like ive done everything in a game however I would have liked it if steam did have platinum achievements so I don’t feel pressured to buy dlc all the time to get that 100%).

Second is that there isn’t really many multi-platform games I was planning to buy this year (the closest one to this date is Far Cry 5) plus I have a lot of games still to play on my PS4 (monster hunter world, 2 assassin’s creed games, bioshock infinite and until dawn just to name a few) in addition to the exclusives I was going to buy this year like Spiderman, Yakuza 6 and RDR2. Because of all these games, I have a little suspicion that I wouldn’t really use the gaming pc very much which eats away at me as it would make me feel like I’ve wasted money.

Third is that because I’m not really computer savvy at all, I always get apprehensive that if I buy something for the pc it will not work and I will have no clue how to fix it. One of the great things about consoles is that you generally know everything will work and if it doesn’t majority of the time, it’s the disc or on the game side.

Anyway if you stuck with me through this giant post, thanks and please post down below with what you guys think. If you have any questions please feel free to message me.

I think preordering games can be worth it especially when you are like me and you live miles away from any shop that sells games. The ability to pay for them on amazon a few months earlier and then have them waiting for me when I come home from work is nice an efficient since I don't really like buying games digitally.
