Hi guys. I know that this subject has probably gone over and over around here but still...
So i need to know, nowadays, which one is better to play ps3 games. Not only talking about resolution but the whole TV.
I also have some doubts about that 1080p ps3 can reach, i mean, both plasma and LCD can provide that resolution?
Enlighten me please!!
THANK U ALL

Hi mate, most of problems assosiated with LCDs (motion blur, fake colours, poor blacks) and plasmas (image retention, screen burn) are no longer big issues. Here are the differences in my opinion:
PLASMA:
pros -
Inherently good motion
realistic colours.
finer gradients on dark scenes
cons -
softer image due to dithering and PWM noise, can also look slightly grainy
Phosphor trails (yellow/ green flashes which can be seen by those with high retinal persistance - I can see them, very distracting)
Poor Blacks and constrast in brightly lit room
LCD:
pros -
Sharper/ Cleaner image
Better for day time viewing (won't have to close you curtains) and more punchy image overall
cons -
Cheaper LCDs can still have poor blacks in a dark envirnoment. (a good LCD will be around on par unless we are taliking about pioneer's kuro Plasmas)
Some LCDs still have motion issues (relative to plasma) High end LCDs do not have noticable blur although plasma motion is still superior.
It really comes down to personal preference and opinion these days. For gaming I would choose LCD any day. Myself and a good friend both bought 46" TVs last year around the same time. I choose LCD (Sony Bravia W4000) and he went with Plasma (panasonic PZ80), so like anything we had a bit of fun comparing and having little debates and touting the merits of our respective technology. After testing many games on both, we have both agreeed that the ol Bravia is better for gaming on. 1080p content such as games like Wipeout HD paled in comparison on the plasma. However movies and sky HD had nice natural look on the plasma. Funnily enough the black level on the plasma (traditionaly plasmas strength) although supossedly mesured at the same as my LCD did not appear as dark even in a darkened room. Anyway although both are great tvs he was more impressed by my Bravia and the end result was that he recently sold his plasma in favour of switching to a nice new Samsung LCD and he is a very happy chap now.
I haven't gotten an HDTV yet, but I must know something before I do. Lately, Many of my 360 games are showing up with black bars on my
SDTV (that drives me crazy). If I go Widescreen will this go away? I understand that when it comes to movies, some can still have black bars
on HDTV's, can this happen with xbox 360 games? I can only get something under 25 inches at this time and would hate to have any of
the screen wasted :)
Any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi mate, is your current TV a squar-o-vision? Im not sure but it sounds like you have the aspect ratio set to 16:9 when it should be 4:3. 360 games should not have borders (although some cut scenes do for a cinematic look).
If you get an HD tv you will be able to enjoy the games full screen in all their 16:9 widescreen glory.
I would think so mate. I not sure about your particular tv but on WWW.HDTVTEST.CO.UK they say the contrast should be 95 on it's 40" brother. At the end of the day, you best go with what looks good to you. Other factors such as backlight level and ambient lighting in the room should be taken into consideration too. If you have your backlight and contrast too high in a dark room you could damage your eyes.
I have often seen people touting the merits of PS3's RGB full setting on various forums. It seems to come up a lot when cross platform comparisons are done. After much switching between the 2 settings I did see that the picture became more "solid" and less "washed out" looking on the Full setting, however there was on obvious trade off in near black grey detail (much of this was lost). A good example of this is when you play the KZ2 demo and it asks you to adjust the gamma slider. When set to limited it is easily visible for me below half way, however when on RGB Full I have to adjust the slider to the very top before I can even slightly see it.
So what do you guys think? Limited with slightly washed out look? or Full and loose a chunk of dark detail?
Also, can anyone tell me what the cross colour reduction filter does and if it is worth having on?
Cheers
[QUOTE="thepantmachine"][QUOTE="Animal-Mother"] So a game that has lived up to an infamous trailer, has pretty decent graphics, solid gun play and is overall well rounded, doesn't deserve hype? So this dev that has proved itself doesn't deserve the hypeAnimal-Mother
It probably doesn't. Edge - 7/10 .....I can see where they are coming from. Seems like a pretty mediocre shooter to me.
Hasn't edge been un-reliable for some time, so all these other big sites are giving it 9 across the boards, 1 bad review comes out and its the most right oneI wouldn' say unreliable......controversial is closer to the mark. Their review scores often differ from other sites because they are honst and don't fall into the hype trap that so many others do. That is probably why they are one of the longest running and respect gaming publications.
