So the Nintendo DSi arrived in the US on April 5, 2009. I have no idea why, but it has been selling like hotcakes. I have no desire for it whatsoever. I would rather get the Nintendo DS: Lite.
The DS Lite has a Game Boy: Advance cartridge slot, and is only $130 compared to the DSi's $180 price point. I have no idea why people would want to pay $50 more for the DSi. The DSi is the exact same gaming system as the DS Lite. The only significant differences are the loss of the GBA cartridge slot, the addition of two cameras, and the addition of a music player.
I would not pay fifty bucks extra for a camera and play around with pictures. I already have a camera, and other people have their phones. What's the point of buying it? Also, the DS Lite actually looks much nicer because it has a chrome finish, while the DSi is just plastic (to prevent fingerprint smudging). I'll just wait for the DS Lite's price to drop, then buy it. I don't care about the DSi.
Also, this makes me wonder when the next Nintendo handheld system will be released. The DS came out three and a half years after the GBA, and it has been four and a half years since the DS came out. I think a new system will be released around Spring 2010.
