Ok I have completed the campaign and put a decent junk into multiplayer. I really enjoyed the game but that being said it is important to know that I am a person who typically values different things within an FPS. I like a good story, and MOH while not nearly as long as I would like was well put together with a very memorable ending for me. I am a big history buff and a person who greatly values the sacrifice and actions of the U.S. Military. The guns sound amazing and firefights feel like they at least want to portray realism even if it is blockbuster action. You arent going to lay your crosshairs on someone and constantly yell BOOM HEADSHOT. Guns arent perfectly accurate, and no matter how good of a run and gunner you are you are going to have to stick to cover. Speaking of cover I really enjoyed the small but intuitive cover system MOH single player has. Multiplayer is a mixed bag, it can be incredibly fun despite the fact that it seems rather bare bones in the modern shooter market. But it can also be incredibly frustrating due to an erratic spawn system and the sniper class being overpowered and overused. I really hope that danger close develops the next multiplayer system because I would love to see what they can do with it, especially emmersion wise. Dice put together a decent package, but it feels tacked on and likely will need some serious DLC to warrant playing for a long period of time.

Well I hate to say it, but as of today I can no longer trust reviews with blind faith. I hated MW2 and really enjoy MOH

I think it had the potential to be an ok story. But everything felt rushed and absurd. I can't remember the exact details as the story wasn't memorable for me. But I constantly felt like I went from point B to E without ever experiencing or even being explained point A, C, or D. I am glad you enjoyed it however, and am by no means saying that your opinion is wrong. I just did not feel like it was up to the caliber it should have been.

GTAIV - Story sucked, No I don't want to play darts, game play was a step up but not revolutionary. COD:MW2 - My god I have never been so dissapointed in my life. Not only was the campaign short... it was utter crap. Sure it had some fun gameplay moments, but I am not going to be sold on a few WOW moments. That and I felt that multiplayer was at best an expansion pack. Fallout 3 - I understand why people liked it but I guess I was too much of an old school Fallout player to really enjoy it as a Fallout game. If it didn't carry the Fallout name I probably wouldn't be complaining but the things I associated with the old games simply weren'y there. And I am not really talking about gameplay as much as I am atmosphere. I really had no reason to be evil or even cold hearted... and this is from a game enviroment that should force you to think about what you would do if you were in such a position. Instead I felt like I was Mr. Goody Two Shoes skipping all over the wasteland blowing super mutants away to my hearts content. If you played the first two games, you know that running into Super Mutants usually meant "OH **** !" Also I know the game was large, but for some reason it didn't feel nearly as large as the first two games. Lastly Dragon Age, I loved it and hated it at the same time. I thought many of the story elements were well done, but I did not feel like I had just played BG2's worth sucessor.

Because FPS games are for the most part stagnant in their gameplay. Sure every game might present something slightly new, but is it revolutionary...no. The last time I played an FPS which made me smile from ear to ear was the first Call of Duty. Now I am not saying that the FPS genre is bad, I am an avid player and enjoy it when a unique incremental upgrade has been added. But the fact is that most of these games do not offer an experience that is unique enough to differentiate it from the pack in a HOLY **** kind of way. RPGs and games such as Uncharted and MGS4 have more room for innovation as they are genres that are relatively new compared to the FPS genre. And before you jump all over me let me clarify that statement. The western RPG is a much more recent phenomena compared to the FPS, especially when we are talking about games which hit the mainstream such as ME2 and Fallout 3. Uncharted is likewise a very unique experience, at least in our perception if not reality. FPS games also have a very special place in the game world. I think everyone would agree that FPS caters to rather large population that includes everything from frat guys to those who don't go out in the sun. Also it is easily the most competitive genre on the market with everyone trying to gain supremacy over the player base. Look at the games we have going right now (or coming soon)... MW2, Halo: Reach, BC2, Black Ops. MOH, Killzone, etc. That is a market full of heavy hitters who are releasing games at a fevered pitch to keep up with the competition. This leads to very solid games (personal opinions aside we cannot deny the sucess of these franchises) that innovate at a snails pace. Even if first person view didn't present the challenges to innovation that it does, why would developers risk throwing a wrench into the gears of a money making sure thing?

Very few reviews out yet, you can find a few on Metacritic. Single player seems to be getting good responses while multiplayer has been a mixed bag. I will admit I found multiplayer to be somewhat meh on the PC Beta yet at the same time I couldn't quit playing. My other problem was that I hated MW2 so when some of these reviews compare it to that I am left out in the dark. For example I believe one reviewer complained that many of the fights happen at a greater range which they didn't like, something about removing the frantic nature of the FPS. I actually like this idea because other than room to room, most fights don't break out with forces only 20ft from each other. Might want to hold off until tom to see reviews. I for some reason am going to go ahead and get it tonight despire my reservations when a media blackout is enforced by a company. I'm just ready for a decent real world FPS single player experience.

I had been saving up for a TV for about two years when I decided to pull the trigger on the VT25 for its 2D picture quality. 3D was a bonus and I am sad to say it has not moved past that point yet. Don't get me wrong I think 3D is cool, and has great potential for gamers more than anyone, but as of right now the lack of content (both movies, games, and TV) simply doesn't justify the investment in the overpriced glasses. I don't mind wearing them, it really is not that bad. But the content has to justify me wanting to drop 150$ so my friends can enjoy the same content. The games I do have access to are very cool and add something of a "ewwwww shiney!" factor but that doesn't hold. Now that being said I do believe 3D will turn the corner from bonus to "desirable" starting with Gran Turismo 5, Black Ops, and Killzone 3. All three of those games desire to emerse the player and 3D will greatly enhance that feeling. Juding from some previews black ops seems to have gone the correct route of using the depth to create a subtle yet impacting sense of realism. One of my favorite inovations (showing my age) in the FPS genre was aiming down the sights in a realistic manner. If you make it where if feels like that gun is right in front of me, the glass is recessed into the scope, and the gun doesn't just appear to be part of a flat picture... well then count me in. But even if these games begin to change the opinion of the gamer crowd I will still be surprised if we see 3D survive in a meaningful manner if current trends continue. Glasses are prohibitively exspensive... 150$ a piece?! There are things I'd much rather spend my money on. Exclusive content with certain TVs... why in the world would you choke off content in a market devoid of it. No one is going to buy a TV just because they can get Ice Age over Aliens vs. Monsters. It requires a new AV reciever for people wanting to use surround sound... Most games suffer from the horsepower required to output the two 3D images not to mention the glasses darken the image. Enviroments have to warrant 3D over graphics. Anyways that just my 2 cents. I believe that if anything will keep 3D alive until decent movies come out it will be gamers. If anyone has any questions I will be glad to answer them. Now to continue my search for a MOH review.
