First Impressions: Dragon Age (PC)

I read the Gamespot review: for those of you who may not know it, Dragon Age is now #2 on the All-Time RPG list for the PC. It's 9.5 rating places it right under Diablo (which scored a 9.6 under the old system). The former #2 was Oblivion (believe it or not).:P

I couldn't bear to wait another minute: foregoing the installation of the DLCs, I went ahead and booted up Dragon Age. After I picked my jaw up off of the floor  the first thing I could do was croak, "OMG.....":P:lol:

The game runs faultlessly on Vista-64: with a Quad-Core CPU, 8 GB RAM, and a 9-Series nVidia, there wasn't any framerate hitches at all. Camera was as smooth as polished glass. Animation and graphics detail were brilliant. And anyone who has seen Mass Effect knows Bioware has set the bar very high on in-game dialog: more than 800,000 lines of spoken dialog are in this game: and not a monotone to be found.:P

For those interested, I chose the Mage Origin, and I built a human mage using the Dragon Age Character Creator. I won't spoil the game for anyone, but I will say you aren't at all left to your own devices: the in-game tutorial system is a great help.

Kevin Van Ord penned a great review of the PC Version, and I wholeheartedly agree with his findings: the PC is king running this game: it's like looking at a freshly-polished gemstone. He also wrote that 50 hours would be minimum, more if you dive into the side-quests.

I plan to become lost in the immersion.:P
