Beginner adventure games? My mom is a non-gamer who got a DS for Christmas for brain games and bejewled type games. She has decided that she's ready to try an adventure/wander around game. She has tried Zelda but feels it's too difficult. Is there something you'd recommend to help her fill the gap (and hopefully increase her skills/flexibility to be able to do more complex games like Zelda)? She's been playing 7 Wonders, Clubhouse games, and Brain Age. Thanks for any ideas. TWC

There is a union/forum here for "adultgamers" at http://www.gamespot.com/pages/unions/home.php?union_id=adultgamers I'm 33, my husband is 46, and my mom is 58 and we all own NDS and play daily! My mom even owns the pink one and takes it to work to play during her lunch break. No shame in this family ;-) I adore the DS and don't care if I have to look over the top of kids heads when shopping for titles in the game aisle... in fact, I get better customer service because I am an adult! I used online walkthroughs when I got stuck. I think using a walkthrough all the time takes away the fun of exploring. Zelda seems to give you hints, too (Ciela, the statues, etc.). That being said, I did buy the official guide after I completed the game because it looks extremely well made and it might be useful for when other family members play. One thing I did notice is that one of the major walkthroughs online didn't have the most accurate info when it came to finding the spirit gems... like maybe things switched places between preview and release? Otherwise, all the other stuff was on target. TW

Better/more sensitive volume control, a battery "meter", an optional cartridge to use DS games in slot 2 so you can carry two games in the unit all the time (since I'll probably never own a GBA cartridge!), and some PDA utilities onboard (contact list, appointment book, notepad, alarms/reminders?) come to mind! Yes, the DS has wifi. I can't answer the RPG/adventure games q, but I'm guessing you'll hear from others what games they are addicted to in those categories (like Contra and Call of Duty 4 seem to be talked about quite a bit right now!). I don't think it's too late since the DS continues to sell extremely well. DS has recently (Nov 07) stated that they have no plans to update the console since sales are still strong. I think the DS's fairly low cost also helps reduce the pain you might have when/if a new DS comes out any time soon. So, go for it! You obviously enjoy gaming, so why not?! TW

Two crimson/black units and a pink one.  I like that the crimson only has the shiney coating on the outside lid... so not a big smudge catcher.  The pink seems to be fairly forgiving of smudges too, compared to the solid white or black units.

Palm does the same thing... you really aren't paying a repair fee, but rather a fee to get a refurb unit sent to you.
I don't know if the DS hit a few bad batches, or if the hinges just take the most abuse because they are not protected at all (outside of the unit instead of in a bit or in the middle like a lot of laptops.)  Either way, the DS is cheap enough that if it breaks I'll be sure to buy my next one from a box store like Best Buy who offers their own extended warranty.  (I did the math and a DS cost less than $1.50 per day for the 90 days of warranty use!  I'm definitely getting that much enjoyment each day!)

Where are you seeing a lineup?  (All I can find is the "new releases by week of..." and hitting "next week" over and over again... is there an easier way?  And you're right... it looks pretty depressing so far!).

I feel your pain ;-)I read a FAQ online that had the hint that you can hit the area around the puzzle (both close in and farther away) to alter tiles in a different fashion than actually hitting the tiles (like us rule-followers tend to keep doing!).  So, see how there is a grid on the floor?  Try hitting one row and two rows away (especially at the corners) to see how it affects your puzzle.  Once I had that trick, it was 10 mins maybe to get the right image.TW
