yup, just plug hdmi to tv, optical to reciever, and set reciever to digital in, and ur all set. goodluck, and i just got surround recently , u WILL NEVER BE THE SAME
ur hdmi goes to ur tv the optical from ps3 goes to home theatre. i just got a samsung htx75 or something. use regular audio from tv to home theatre. i have a samsung tv so i put components for xbox, hdmi 1 ps3, hdmi2 home theater, aux2 for regular tv, and i have an optical cable from my 360 to home theater (i switch off from 360 to ps3 using the optical)
HD is better than 480i/p. but a hump from 720p or 1080i to 1080p on xbox makes little or no difference. i heard halo3 runs at a dual layered 620p or some junk, but anywho any fool knows HD is better than SD. best of luck to a noob, jk.
who cares about the failure rate... worry about it when it happens. im guessing all systems have a 100% failure rate cuss my nintendo and turbo graphic 16 dont work anymore.
