That is a good setup. If you don't want to overclock you can go with 1600 MHz RAM (you won't be able to tell the difference between it and the 2000 MHz). If you are going to overclock you will need an aftermarket cpu heatsink. The stock Intel cooler does alright as long as you aren't overclocking.jtcraftI will be overclocking to make the most of the RAM - will I definitely need a different cpu heatsink? Cheers

I'll get an extra 2 case fans, they are dirt cheap so shouldn't be a problem.
Is the rest of the setup OK in terms of compatiability / performance?
Hi all, hoping you can all provide some valuable input (as always):
Looking to purchase this set of components tonight:
Intel i5 750 Processor (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172755)
Asus P7P55 Motherboard (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176820)
OCZ 4Gb DDR3 2000Mhz (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/191195)
XFX ATI HD5850 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/196443)
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB drive (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173804)
OCZ Stealth 600Watt Power Supply (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127861)
NZXT Beta Black ATX case (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/170039)
120mm case fans (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/63281)
I just want to make sure everything looks in order (in terms of compatiability), and that there aren't any glaring holes I've missed.
I'm going to have fun learning how to build this rig, and how to overclock (I understand with this motherboard I need to overclock to get the most out of the RAM)
I am a novice here so any input would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully this setup will be pretty strong in terms of gaming / graphic design?
Thanks :D
I'm just going to point out that your motherboard has an onboard video card, which is hardly necessary since you're putting in a dedicated card. You might be able to save a little money if you get a motherboard without. Also, unless you plan to upgrade to having two graphics cards, you don't need a motherboard with two PCI-Express x16 slots.
Also want to just throw out there that you need to make sure you install 64-bit Windows 7 if you want all your RAM to be usable.
That setup is definitely very nice. Depending on what your monitor's resolution is, you'll definitely run games at very high settings.

Thanks for this. It does seem a bit redundant having that in there, I'll definitely look to getting that changed...
I was pre-warned about loading 64-bit Windows but thanks for pointing that out =)
Awesome, thanks for your help guys.
Looks like I'll be needing to add a new monitor to that list too, then...
...so I thought I'd check by with you guys first, hopefully you can give me some helpful input =)
A friend has recommended the following setup for me:
AMD Phenom X4 955 Black Edition
MSI 790GX-G65
4GB DDR3 Ram
ATI HD 5850
Samsung Spinpoint F1 SATAII HDD
OCZ Stealth Xtreme 600 Watt PSU
DVD Writer
ATX case
A copy of Windows 7
I'm not too fussed on the price (I think this will be around the £600-£700 mark), I guess what I'd ideally like to know is:
1 - does this all look compatiable? Anything which is clearly a bad mistake and should be changed?
2 - what kind of performance can I expect from these specs? Maxed-out (full AA etc) on games like L4D2? How about Crysis?
3 - will this cover me for the next 4-5 years or so?
I will probably enlist his help when it comes to actually building the thing, and that might mean getting some more tips from you all too.
Cheers all!
This sounds really awesome. One for the radar, methinks...
Loved the conference. I think that was a really strong showing - especially looking forward to SMG2, NSMB Wii, and Metroid! They look immense...
FANTASTIC news.
One I can cross off my hit-list!
