@NickAnguiano @uzdenus Yeah, it's a matter of ownership. I don't get a license when i buy a music cd, i get an album that I could listen to as long as I have a cd player. However same does not apply to games, Any activation process is a time bomb and those bombs will begin to explode in near future. Just wait until some major publisher/service provider goes bankrupt. it's a "we do it because we can" situation. And it's far from being ideal.
@nate1222 @uzdenus Exactly, even games that you buy "physically" end up forcing you connect to some sort of online service. You can't "buy" any games but only get a licence to play them as long as the online service that activates your game is still active. Nothing is certain and I believe that's a great danger for the future of pc gaming. I'm simply going to abandon pc gaming unless Drm-free games become the next standart.
Is it that hard to understand? It's not about having discs that we could touch, smell, lick or go to bed with. It's about actually "owning" the game that we paid for. Gamers are not blind to advantages brought with digital distribution yet licence issues point to a blurry future where you can't be sure that you'll be able to play the game that you had bought. I just want to know that I could play any game that I had purchased regardless of time, internet status or troubling drm issues. We just seek for some sort of assurance and that inevitable future of yours does not give any.
For the sake of video gaming industry, this game (or one of the upcoming AC titles) should fail in terms of sales so that big publishers should reconsider their approach to sequels. I can see why it is safer and easier to stick with sequals and I'm somewhat ok with it as long as the following titles come up with some innovative ideas, offering a fresh gameplay and atmosphere while keeping the aspects that made the series so popular. HOWEVER AC series has turned into a JOKE. I can hardly call Black Flag as the new installment in series, it's almost like a texture pack replacing the old game worlds with same gameplay mechanics. Nothing ever feels new about AC games anymore. Same gameplay/combat/mission/pointless grinding with different time/location settings. This is a joke. And it's not funny. How about taking some time to actually develop a "true" sequel? something that would feel evolutionary if not revolutionary. How about making people actually plan for the assassinations, better combat mechanics, better exploration opportunities? How about feeling excited before making a jump? This game should sacrifice itself so that the industry should see that such sequels are doomed unless they come up with a brightened, idealist approach. Not that i have any hope tough.
