I have both and i have to say that mtcp wins hands down. they are very light, sounds better (vocal, more deep bass and sound doesn't get to sharp and painful with high volume), they have 20 different pairs of buds and the foam once are like a kind of sponge so it shapes after you ear and goes back to normal when you take it out. the ath-m50 are pretty heavy but gives a tiny little bit more surround, but it doesn't really matter. it is pretty heavy and tight, but it sounds not as good and sound bad after hours with mtcp. mtcp are much better, but they cost twice as much. people complains that they are not worth it and you can get something even better for those money etc but they sounds 3 times even though they are overpriced , they are better so you cant use money as a argument. if you pay 150 and not 400 than you use hours with lower sound quality and save 250 that you can use on something else, but I likes expesive stuff because they often looks and feels better. (I just save for another month or so if i really need to) almost everywhere i go, they say that stuff by monster and beats are not woth **** but these are the only one i have tried and i have to say that they are awesome. maybe they aren't worth 400, but they are still worth it. you can probably find something heavy, none-portable amp-needing headphones for the same amount and get better sound, but i don't think it is necessary. they are iem and sounds better. i know this is late, but perhaps i help others who are thinking about the same thing :) P.S I bought a pair of mtcp used for 200$ and they are 2 years old so they are burned in, while my ath-m50 is 3 month old and used for 30-40 hours so perhaps they get better after burning in. i don't really care because i like the mtcp better. i can use them with my phone without needing an amp and i can use them home much easier that the ath-m50 with a 5m long cable or something that is hard to put in a pocket
