Any of us that have been following Kojima’s career, especially over the last 10 or so years, know that he has been enamored with the premise of an open world environment thanks in part to a certain game developer he admires so much… Rockstar.
It was evident to any that played MGS5 that he was going for more of that kind of an approach.
This is just pure speculation on my part but I have a sneaking suspicion that Kojima sees all the success of Rockstar, what with their GTA and Red Dead Redemption games, and thinks that their success will somehow translate to instant success for him as well (even though he has amassed a considerable amount of it himself.).
My opinion is leave what Rockstar does best to Rockstar. Do what you do best.
Kojima and the metal gear series have been known for pushing and changing the norms that have set the videogame landscape for years. Love his games or hate them it’s hard to argue that his influence (whether it be stealth gameplay in pretty much every game out there now or a more cinematic approach to telling a story in our medium.) is not in some way derived from the success he has accrued thanks to his own talent.
I think a very intuitive blue genie said it best (what in the hell are you talking about Ninja?)…

Personally speaking I am super excited for Death Stranding but I just hope Kojima doesn’t stray too far away from what made him a success to begin with.
Just wanted to see if my remark would somehow make people actually think before writing down the first thing that comes from that space between their ears (like you Ninja? shhh... quiet!).
No doubt this comment section will more than likely turn into a battle zone but hey... maybe this will be a first. Fingers crossed, lol.
Personally I would love to see Spider-man thrown into the mix or perhaps another iconic character like Captain America or Hulk. The possibilities are endless considering the universe NetherRealm can draw from.
(Ninja, Marvel is not... I mean, they... ughhh, never-mind.)
As much as we make light of staying up "X" hours trying to beat that new release or parade our final time from some kind of ridiculously long marathon around like a badge of honor at the end of the day these are just games.
They're not worth dying over, let alone leaving a family behind.
If that actually came to fruition it would probably go down as the most ambitious and exciting game in fighting game history.
I know from a technical standpoint it would probably never work (or at the very least would see one company take more of a "backseat" role.) but the possibility of it happening would most definitely fulfill that old 90's fighting game wish so many of us had at the time.
