They only lose that much at launch. Once they are in full mass production prices plummet. Blu-ray diodes have gone from $150 to $8 since PS3 launch (quit complaining about it being there it is WELL worth the initial costs for us and Sony).... I seriously doubt they're losing money on the hardware anymore. They just take the initial losses because new technology is expensive for the first 6 months or so and it ends up being well worth it in the end for everyone.

You listed it yourself that they said it as a rumor.... I mean look at some of EGM's rumor mills. If it happens it will probably be like $50. MS price drops are only going to come with PS3 drops or sales spikes.

They're going to support PS3 for around 10 years. But that doesn't mean they won't release another console to compete with MS's next one in 5-6 or so years (if MS goes for a new one in 3 years again they'll probably skip that gen). Guarunteed Sony and MS are looking into future technologies and planning stuff though......
