MMORPGs

So I've recently been yearning for a MMO experience again, so I went exploring.

Ryzom Ring. When I started Ryzom, the first thing that I found interesting was its skill system.  It allowed players to create new skills by taking a base skill (say Ice Bolt) and modifying it, by adding +'s and -'s that equal out, so you could take Ice, and Add to its cast time but increase its strength.  Despite the excellent idea for skills, the game didn't feel polished, there was no jumping, the graphics were subpar, and combat was boring.  So I moved on...

Eve Online. When I first started Eve, I was amazed by the graphics it could obtain with great frame rates on my hardware.  That's one problem I've experienced in several MMORPGs, mediocre graphics with horrid framerates.  Eve was very difficult to get into though, it has a steep learning curve and is very intimidating to the beginners.  After a two hour long (or more) tutorial, I was tossed into the Eve universe....and lost.  Over the next week in game I got a new ship, and killed some enemies, but I remained unimpressed by the combat, and the space setting isn't really my thing, so I moved on...

World of Warcraft.  I've tried this game before, but just absolutely despise its cartoony graphics and over simplified gameplay, suffice to say, the same thing happened this time and after three days I was done.  I can run this game on full settings with zero lag, and great FPS.

Ever Quest II. And so I returned to my old addiction, EQ2.  This game offers the best of both worlds, understandable gameplay with great depth.  It has fun endgame raids, realistic gear, amazing environments.  They aren't afraid to completely change a class to balance though, one thing that upset me before (being a class that had almost its entire function stripped).  One thing that I HAVE to comment on, this game runs like a dog, it's horrible.  I have a x1950pro512mb and this thing struggles to get 20fps on low settings.  Despite this, this game is just too addictive and has too many things that I love to pass up, even if the PVP is rediculously unbalanced (I'm a Templar now /sigh).
