All hype and only broken promises. I can't remember it but there was another company that attempted something like this that used Steam to provide games and what came of that? There was so much hype around it but ultimately ended up in failure.

This game is the only proof we need that video game consoles are here to stay.

So essentially, I wouldn't be able to sell used games on Craigslist, eBay, or to my friends? Because I don't have "certification" to clear the "game rights" from my console or remit the 10% cut to Microsoft?

I never thought of that. TV manufacturers got nabbed a couple time by courts and class action lawsuits on "price-fixing" flat panel costs. Why is Apple allowed to charge an exorbitant amount of sums on their product? Not an apple-to-apple comparison, but it's along the same line because when flat panel producers price-fix, they're essentially just passing that cost down on to the consumers.

I couldn't agree with you more. With all of these "gimmicks", console games become more like a toy IMO. Just look at the Wii. When you're playing games on it, people are flailing the controller in their hands and end up breaking their flatscreen tv's. A successful memorable game doesn't need gimmicks - Call of Duty series, Halo, Final Fantasy 7, etc. It's just a good game with good mechanics and storyline.

Wow....I consider myself a gamer - frequent the game aisle and have over 200 console video games. But for this (the PSP Vita launch) to go by without me even remembering/knowing.....that says a lot. There's no hype at all. I haven't seen a single commercial of it on tv either. What happened to good old Sony video game commercials that aired every 10 minutes on tv? Oh yeah, I also work for a huge retailer that sells electronics. What a flop. I think what is destroying handheld gaming are smartphones and its easy access to a plethora of cheap fun video games.

I haven't posted anything on Gamespot in over 6 months, but after seeing this, I had to comment. I've never had a PSP, but after seeing the Vita, I'm actually thinking of getting the Vita. The design is both minimalistic looking, yet looks like it's still functional. The resolution is going to be impressive. Especially with the OLED screen. Perhaps the Vita will get me back into portable gaming again.

I don't put graphics as the top priority when deciding which version to get. Ultimately, it comes to performance. The prime example goes back to Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. The Xbox version had way better graphics than the PS2....but it was totally unplayable due to a very choppy framerate throughout the entire game. The PS2 on the otherhand, didn't have the graphics power, but it played super smooth and was really enjoyable to play. Just a thought.

I'm not surprised the overall PSP didn't change much. I think it looks cool the way it is. And being that the PSP uses the UMD, the PSP redesign can only get so small. But I am interested in the video output, and for only $40 more and the fact that the PSP is so much more advanced than the DS, I'm considering getting one this September.
