[QUOTE="Baselerd"]

If I didnt have anything better to spend my money on then I would have an Extreme edition cpu too, with a pair of 9800gx2's probably. O:-) On that note, this is the funniest newegg review I've read in a while...

"Pros: First of all, I own or have owned all of them: 8800U 3-Way, 8800GTS 512 SLI, Dual HD 3870x2 Quad CrossX, HD 3870x2 + HD3870 3-Way CrossX, HD 3870 + HD 3850 Poor Man CrossX, 4.6GHz Wolfdale, 4.4GHz Yorkfield, 3.8 GHz Kentfield, Raptors, Cheetah, Cell Shock, Asus Maximus, Asus Striker II, and this morning I just ordered two 9800GX2 from Newegg for Quad SLI. My full-time hobby is building a machine that can run Crysis completely maxed out and it won't exist for at least another year. To the person who thinks a HD3870x2 is a better deal. It's not. Crysis is slower with 3-way and 4-way CrossX than 2-way CrossX with Catalyst 8.3. HD3870x2 is Slower than Poor Man CrossX on Asus Maximus 1440 and below. Also, 60%+ of all games run way SLOWER with CrossX than with just HD3870. Kane Lynch runs at 3-6fps with CrossX. The best in the world right now is still 8800U 3-Way, but I'm praying Quad SLI will come close for half the price, but it probably won't. I'll find out March 25th.

Cons: I'm going to have to buy the 790i and 3-way 9800GTX a week from today. I heard 9800GTX can be OC'd to 900MHz, so that will finally surpass the 8800U 3-way and may beat the Quad 9800 GX2 SLI I just ordered. I will post another review in a week or two.

Other Thoughts: Cheaper than buying another Rolex. Cheaper than my day job which is high performance computing. C'mon guys, price and value have no meaning for this stuff which all goes obsolete in 6 months. Crysis looks way way better with ATI, but Nvidia is way faster. HD3870x2 doesn't work at all for at least half the games I tried, and SLI always does, so the HD3870x2 is not a great value, especially since Poor Man CrossX can beat it 1440 and below on Asus Maximus running 4.4GHz and above."

This guy has more money than sense. I would call him out on bs, but he has newegg verified that he bought it XD

quocthai

that's just ridiculous consider I had to think for a few weeks before decided to buy a new video card. I still don't believe he bought all that stuff tho.

Hahah, that is crazy. Yeah, anything that costs over $100 takes me like weeks of research before I convince myself to buy it. :P This guy must be loaded for sure. Funny how people always want to post their computer's life story in a newegg review.

Yeah, that is true. But at the time he was building his comp, the e6700's were out, and he went and bought a x6800, which was basically a showoff chip for intel. 'Course te e6700's probably cost more than they do now back in 2006 then they do now, but I doubt they cost anywhere near the $1000 x6800.

[QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"]The HD3850 gets around 16,000-17,000 in 3DMark05. I get 10,500 with one XFX XXX 8600GT. When I SLI them I will be getting over 20,000. In 3DMark06 I get 5760. The HD3850 gets around 9000-10000. With SLI 8600GT's I will get around 10,000-11,000. The 8600GT I got was $79 after rebate. I will be getting another one so it actaually costs less after rebates then one HD3850. And XFX has a double lifetime warrenty.nVidiaGaMer

you MIGHT get double the numbers in some little program but when it comes to gaming guess which one gives you alot better performance ? last time i checked sli doesn't come close to giving you double performance the 3850 wins easy

Its kind of funny that a HD3850 gets under 30fps in a 3 year old game like Oblivion on max settings @ 1280x1024. 8600GT in SLI gets 40 fps.

Uh, what are you taking about. I run oblivion @1440x900 max settings and I get nothing below 40 fps, but most of the time I'm at 60 fps (vsync). Also, Oblivion is definetly one of the most demanding games out there, mostly due to the fact that the coding is pretty darn junky.

Oh, I just saw your screename, now it all makes sense....

Ahhahaha, Oh sorry, I had to post this review off newegg 7950gx2:

"I finished building my gaming machine about a month ago and I bought my case and cooling equipment all from the Koolance company which I highly recommend. My specs are x6800 Extreme Edition Core 2 DUO with two 7950gGX2(x2 SLI) I did not have any regrets about not waiting for the 8800GTX. One thing is that there is no current waterblock available yet and the other thing was that I heard overclocking wasn't spactacular on the 8800GTX either. I just don't see why you would want to spend much more for a little performance increase by not a huge margin. Conclusion: If you are stuck in deciding which card to get between the 7950GX2 and 8800GTX, I would highly recommend this card since it is much cheaper, waterblocks are currently available for this video card, and it should play all your games maxed out easily. Note:If you buy two of these, make sure you have an SLI motherboard ready. I am using the P5N32-SLI Premium and I had enough room for both of my videos cards(7950GX2,sound card, etc. "

"I just don't see why you would want to spend much more for a little performance increase by not a huge margin."

This coming from the dude who bought a x6800..... Anyone else find this ironic.....

I have a Sapphire HD3850 256mb. Yesterday I installed OmegaDrivers and patch 1.2 for Crysis. I realized I was getting a pretty large fps boost, so decided to turn up the graphics and see how it went. I turned everything to high @ 1440x900 resolution, and to my suprise, was staying on or above 30 fps (this is on the first level). I ran the GPU benchmark and got an average fps of 29.6.:o If I would have tried these settings with retail Crysis and 7.11 Catalyst Drivers, I would get like 10-20 fps, no joke.

Moral of the story, as time goes on 3850 performance is going up, and price is going down. A nice combination.:D

Course 8800 gt prices are coming down too.:P
