I know I'm a little late for this but I wanted to post what I thought about the 3 big E3 conferences.
Microsoft C+: I really thought that Microsoft was going to have a big conference when they started off so strong with MW3 and the new Tomb Raider. I really got bored with all the motion games.Don't get me wrong I love the concept of the Kinect (especially over the Wii and Playstation Move) but there were just way too many demos and previews for my taste. However some Kinect games look like they have potential to become great games. Gears of War 3 looks great, I really enjoyed participating in the beta they had in late April - early May. Looking forward to adding that to my collection after summer is over.Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is a great idea, I still play through the original story every now and then. I'm really looking forward to reliving the original story with polished graphics and in full HD! Halo 4 was not really a surprise to me, I kind of saw Microsoft doing this at the end even before it was leaked on the net. I have been wanting to continue the story from Halo 3 and see what awaits Master Chief who's been floating in space for some time now. I'm curious to see what kind of job 343 does not only with Halo 4, but Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary as well. I think all the Kinect stuff really slowed them down.
Sony B+: I respect the way Sony came out and basicallylaid it all out on how they were hacked and compromisedinformation from millions of PSNaccounts. I really liked their apology and how they approached it during their conference thatway they could just get it over with and out of the way.Uncharted 3 looks fantastic, not just from a visual stand point but a game play stand point as well. I'm highly anticipating the beta that's coming soon to PSN. I was not impressed with all the 3D stuff as I still think it's just a gimmick and not worth the money right now. I know 3D will one day change the way we play games but in my opinion it still has a way to go. I figured Sony would be just like Microsoft when it came to the motion games but I'm glad they didn't cram it down our throats like MS did. None of the Move games really wowed me at all. Medieval Moves is a good example, it's so boring, bland, and looks so unentertaining. I just don't think shooting gears with abowto move further into a level is exciting. Even though I don't like the name, I thought the PS Vita looked awesome! I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with it, the games already look awesome. I thought Sony really stole the show with the revealing of the Vita.
Nintendo B-: After watching all the conferences on day one, I really thought Nintendo was going to blow the roof off and steal the show with their conference. They really had a chance to leave everyone in the dust with their new console reveal. Instead of doing so, they left everyone confused for the majority of the conference andwondering if the Wii-U is a new console or a controller/add-on. What really disappointed me was no price on the Wii-U, no specs, and hardly any extra info on the console. Also the fact that they basically cut the conference short after that and left everyone in the dark about the new console. The graphics were alright, they weren't mind blowing but at the same time they're a huge step up from the Wii. I just thought theycould ofwent in a different direction with the reveal and done a better job overall. Other than all the Wii-U stuff, I enjoyed some of the 3DS games. Star Fox looks like it's a solid choice for the 3DS. Looking forward to the new Zelda game, curious to see how it turns out. So much mystery about the new console really made it disappointing for me however they had a much more solid conference than Microsoft.
It's sad to see another E3 come and go like that. I was really hoping for more during this E3 but it will make the hype going into next years so much more. Hopefully one day I can make my dream come true by actually attending E3! Overall E3 grade: B+.
