even though the red ring signifies a system failure, (which is abroad explanation stating u need to trun in the box) the red ring is actually a heating malfuntion...the red ring is caused my mass amounts of heat generated by the chip and motherboard, when a transistor burns out, software gets corrupted and u recieve the red ring of death...the "system failer" tag that microsft gave it before the release of the xbox was to narrow the possibilites down for what whent wrong with the system, now that we know what happens, the red ring is 90 percent most likely to happen because of over heating issues, To avoid this, try moving your exbox off the florr and at least 6 inches or more away from your unit, anything that might contain heat.
