@dok_dx

Rationalize what you will, I've made point quite clear and I was not and still am not trying to change your mind nor anyone else's, merely stating an opinion which by the way, to each his own.

I think people who think PRG = story never played D & D back in the day with dice and paper. The "stories" were for the most part the same as Demon's Souls. "There's a great evil go kill it." Moreover, there IS a story in DS. It's not as convoluted like DA:O and in your face about it. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=954345&topic=52233064 . Gamers are so spoon feed these days that if they have to dig for something it must not be there. BTW the Roll in RPG = dice roll. dok_dx

And I think everybody is entitled to his own opinion, culture and way of doing stuff, in my table days RPG stood for role playing game, and it used to be more about people less about dice, by itself RPG does not = story, it means playing a role in said story based game, in other words, making choices that will define your role in said story.

Demon's Souls has a story, one that is less implicit as you pointed out but still it's a background more than an element of the game, there's almost nothing about role playing there

If however you do play role playing games otherwise, fine, not my concern, just don't assume someone is wrong based on your definition of RPG rather than the general one.

Edit: Added dok_dx quote

The problem i see with demon's souls is not that it's bad, on the contrary it gave me very pleasant times, coupled with some frustration sure but a kind of satisfaction I've long felt missing.

The real problem is that in my opinion it isn't an RPG, there's no R there, just PG, in other words, it's a hack and slash game same as diablo, and i am not saying diablo was a bad game, i loved it but to me it was a hack and slash, again not a single piece of R there.

A RPG game should be rewarded for it's story primarily since the whole genre was supposed to revolve around it, in a sense i guess the computer folks will never get this, but i am sure as i can be anyone who ever played an old school table RPG weeps a little by this nomination, since it only serve to inspire a new generation of ever more meaningless games, where choices get streamlined to kill pressing X or Y.

As game of the year though, demon's soul was a fine choice and i agree with it.
