For starters, uve got quite a good setup, so dun bother wif the mobo and the processor, its decent enough to play the games. Anyway, the 2 things u shud look at is the PSU n the graphics card. Well obviously u know that.. haha.. So wat i can say is that if you want to play games at max settings, u need at least a 9 series gcard.. maybe a 9600GT if not a 8600 or 8800 GT... im not sure whether ur slot is PCIe 1.0 or 2.0 though, but either way both cards will work.
But u need to upgrade your PSU unit. If i'm not mistaken, your PSU unit should be standard dimension, so just go ahead and buy any PSU (i would recommend at least a 400-450W PSU). Just rmbr to get good brands as some brands, although they state it is 450W, it only produces 400W or lower and are unstable so it might underproduce power when your card needs it and results in BSOD or crashes. But to be safe, bring ur com to the techs at the shop, they should know how to fix u up :). But in most cases, its not that serious. LOL. just stating the worst.
Hope this helps. :)
I have a similar problem to you, but im using a e520 and it uses a 305W. Actually what you should be paying attention to is that ur PSU is proprietary to dell.. in other words, its not that easy to find a replacement PSU.. im not sure about your model but my PSU model is H305N-00. I think the dimension is a little different compared to other PSU's. And not to mention its on SATA... so.. might wanna check yours out.
and i think you would need at least 350W minimum to run a 9 series graphics card.
Hope this helps. :)
I have a problem choosing which graphics card i should buy, currently, my problem is that my PSU is only producing 305W but i'm not sure whether it will support any 8 or 9 series graphics card. I will be upgrading my RAM to 3GB.
So my options are, either to upgrade my PSU unit to suit a more powerful card (i'm using a 7300 LE atm) which doesnt enable me to play games such as COD:WAW smoothly and the upcoming games, or stick with my current PSU unit, and choose the most accomodating graphics card to date which can support my PSU unit.
This is my rig...
Dell Dimension E520,
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300@1.86Ghz
1GB RAM
256MB PCIe Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE Turbo Cache
305W DC power Supply
+5V=22A
+3.3V=17A
+12VA=18A
+12VB=18A
-12V=1A
+5vfp=12A
Connectors
24 pin mobo and cpu connector
4x5pin SATA power connector
1x4 Pin IDE connector
1xFloppy Drive connector
As you can see, the PSU unit is proprietary to the dell models.. so i'm wondering which PSU can fit well into my e520 casing if i choose the first option.
And just as a side note, any of you guys know if i buy a 9600GT, will it run as well in a PCIe 1.0 slot (since its made to work in a PCIe 2.0 and its backward compatible)? I recon it will only work as equal to only a 8600GT card but i'm unsure.
HELP GUYS!!! I really wanna play the new games!!!
