Goodbye Gamespot

As most of you can probably guess, I'm moving on over to GiantBomb!
My profile there is Blitzer.

It's been a fun 4 years, but the time has come to move on. As far as I'm concerned, everything went downhill when Rich left. Jeff leaving is what really did it for me though. I haven't blogged since then and only visited to read a few blogs, game reviews and for the E3 coverage.(Which was awesome, great job guys!)

I feel bad for the talented editors and staff that are left. Namely Ryan, Aaron, Brian, Homer, Bethany and the few others I can't think of at the moment. I wish them the best and thank them as well.

See ya.

Trick or Treat?

So, as usual my one day off a week involves me going game shopping. GH3 sitting here all lonesome for the past few days drove one purchase. My love of a series the other.

Halloween purchases!

Yep, so I just kept my hard drive from my broken 360. I'm all set now, minux a silvery CD tray, aww well. GH3 rocks by the way. Anyone wanna play? Haven't cracked open Drac X yet, as I'm waiting for a certain someone. ;)

I'm sure you all know tomorrow is Halloween. So I decided to do a pumpkin this year. Usually just my sister carves one. But we had three this year, so yea.

Mine, then all three.

My pumpkin!

All the pumpkins!

Happy Halloween!

Sniff...sniff...

oh noes!

I knew it was coming. It had been acting up lately. The GH3 demo was freezing like mad, I hoped it was just that demo/disc.Just got home with GH3 too, oh well time to deal with Microsoft customer service. Wish me luck.

Big Name Reviews

Believe them or not?

So we've all seen Ratchet and Clank's 7.5. I've played the demo, it was ok, but I've never been a huge platformer fan. Will I buy the game? No, probably not. But I just want to help try to silence the people complaining about GS's review. Seriously why it bothers people so much, I'll never know. If you like the game, good for you, who cares what other people think. But the average score is a 9! So, just because the average of reviewer thinks it's great doesn't mean you shouldn't form your own opinion. If every reviewer told you jumping off a bridge was fun, would you give it a try? My point being every reviewer is different, they are people just like us. Not everyone is the same.

Back on track. This year (or end of the year really) seems to be on track for the worst case of this ever. Take Bioshock, Game of the Year for people when it came out. 9.0! OMG!
Now, no one talks about it. Certain people even said maybe it was a bit overhyped. Play it once and never again. I said that from the start. I tried the demo, it seemed like another FPS with a good story. So I rented it, finished it and will never play it again.

I just hope no other games fall prey this year. It was bad enough with Twilight Princess last year. I almost wish GS would take away scores. Just have a text review. State what you liked, what you didn't and that's it. I know, I know, that will never happen.

So, any takers on what the next game will be?

Temptation

Couldn't help myself. Slimmer PSP + Star Wars?

PSP1

Oh so sexy!

PSP3

Vader

PSP2

You don't mess with Vader!

PSP4

Had to get a new case to carry it all around in right?

So yea. I'm loving it. My old PSP is going to a good cause as well. Let the Gamefest begin!

PS. Also picked up FFT The War of the Lions. Awesome.

PSS. Renegade Squadron impressions eventually.

Game of the Year?

Portal.

Seriously, you have to play this game. It's short yes, but it's just so satisfying. I will probably do a review eventually. Iwon't spoil anything. Kudos to Valve though. They just have a great sense of humor. This is the first game in years that had me smiling all through the credits. I haven't even gotten to Episode 2 yet. I just want to keep making Portals!

Ok enough for now, GO EAT CAKE!

You knew they were coming

What you ask? Well my thoughts on Halo 3 of course.

I've been kind of dead to the world the past two days. (Well more so than usual :P)Like most gamers, I've been playing Halo 3. As of last night. I've finished the Solo game on Normal as well as the Online Campaign on Legendary. I've also found two skulls and gotten one other achievement.

That's a summary. My thoughts are kind of mixed. The game as a whole package is amazing. The term, 'More than the sum of it's parts' comes to mind and does a great job of explaining my thoughts. The graphics are ok, nothing special by any means, but not terrible or anything. The sound? AMAZING! Definitely equal if not better than Halo 2's. Control is perfect as it should be. So what am I mixed up about? Well the game is basically more of the same. It's Halo 2+. Which isn't really a bad thing. I guess I was just expecting more.

I'm probably making myself sound bad. I think the main reason my feelings are mixed is because of the story/ending. I seem to remember Bungie saying that everything would be explained, but it wasn't. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. But I know I'm not the only one upset with the ending.

The length of the campaign was a bit short, but so were the first two games. It seemed about on par with them. Although I liked the pacing of the seconds a littler more. I haven't gotten into multiplayer too much yet. I've played a few games and the matchmaking seems awesome.

So, first impressions. Solid game, I'll be playing it for awhlie. Disappointing story. Damn you Bungie for not explaining everything. Where's Halo 4?

9.5 = Midnight Madness!

Well I'm sure you've all seen the 9.5 Jeff gave Halo 3. It doesn't really surprise me. I knew it would get at least a 9.

Just a quick note, my local EB is actually doing a midnight release for those that preordered the game. So I've convinced some people I know (gamers and non) to come with me. I will try to do some sort of video, but not sure if it will happen.

Just thought I'd brag. The wait continues...

Finishing the Fight!

Hey Gamespot!

Thought it was about time for another update. Hrm let's just jump right in as usual.

Stranglehold - Haven't played it and have no desire to.
Nocturne - Well I lasted another 3 hours or so. Just can't get into it. Cool story, but the gameplay is meh.
Jeanne D'Arc - Awesome game! I've put about 6 hours in so far. Great FFT gameplay.
Tales of Symphonia - Still haven't gotten around to it.
Eternal Sonata - Tried to get it on the 18th, can't find it anywhere still.

As for new stuff. Picked up Onimusha 1 and 2. Wow, I've played about 5 hours of the first game and...just terrible.
Think Resident Evil plus Devil May Cry. Sounds cool, but no, just no. I hear the 3rd and 4th games are much better so I'm sure I'll get them just to complete the saga.
I also picked up Metroid Prime 2 at the same time. The first is ordered off of eBay. It should arrive soon. (Damn eBay sellers!)

So what have I been playing? Well up until last night, World of Warcraft. My Warlock is now level 40 (Yay!) But last night, I popped in a little game you might have heard of. It's called Halo 2 and it's epic! Honestly, my interest in the Halo series has never really been that high. I played the first back on the PC since I never owned an Xbox. I liked it, but never actually finished it. Then when I got my 360 I had to get the Halo Triple Pack because of my collecting addiction. I played through Combat Evolved right away and loved it. Tried to get into the second game, but lost interest about halfway through.

Last night I started from scratch at around 11:30pm. I stopped at 5:30am right at the boss (I didn't know forsure if it was or not, but it turned out to be). I must say man this series is epic! The story is just so engrossing. There isn't really much to the characters other than the Chief and Cortana, But just something about the whole saga is exciting.

I now have a fully paid preorder for Halo 3 - Regular Edition!

5 days and counting!

Take care GS!
