So things that were possible forever ago but consoles outdated hardware couldn't dream of scratching?
Oh well. The only reason to get one of these things is the occasional exclusive title that's actually good like EDF 2025 but that's on current gen consoles so no need for me to buy a new console that'll just gather dust most of its life.
@charlesdao @Kevin-V They were talking about gaming websites in general when they got to the bit about "buying" reviews and awards. There was also that huge controversy with an old Gamespot reviewer that was fired for essentially calling Kane and Lynch garbage when the website was running all sorts of huge ads for that game. But given I tend to trust Angry Joe and his reviews, I'm gonna go ahead and say that review was pretty accurate.
@Kevin-V Was IGN or Destructoid at this years E3. I'm pretty fuzzy on the details since it was so long ago but Planetside 2 wasn't the one which made me face palm pretty hard. Not that it really matters since anyone who says that clearly hasn't seen Planetside 2 or doesn't appreciate the beauty of that game.
Can you blame people for saying reviews and awards were bought when CoD BlOps2 gets most innovative MP game of the year, a game that hasn't done any innovating since it first came out, when Planetside 2 is sitting right there being amazing?
Actually APB does have pay to win items. For example the only way to get a permanent gun in that game is to shell out somewhere in the neighborhood of 25USD to buy a permanent 3 slot weapon. Then there's the "gold" weapons that are slightly modified, pre-slotted weapons that they also sell. They look different as well as generally performing better than the games rented weapons. They could make that issue go away by just allowing players to buy permanent weapons in game with in game cash. I know lots of people argue "I make that kind of in game money in a day or two of playing :D" But not everyone has that kind of time and not everyone can justify paying 25 USD for a single weapon in a game.
Day one reviews aren't really important except for indecisive people who aren't sold on the game but want to buy it the second it hit store shelves. I'd much rather have accurate reviews. Like Brink getting a 7? Sure it's got bugs but it's at least worth an 8. Hell I play it with an ATI card. I HAVE big, huge, noticeable graphical glitches. But I still love the game so much that I bare with it since I know it'll be fixed with a patch or a driver update in the near future. I've also never had any lag with the game, even prior to the patch. Now it just needs map packs, hopefully free ones but I'm sure those days are long gone by now.
For the most part.. I don't see the point to 3D in games. Short of a horror game.. Nothing really pops out at you. I also hate DLC. Most of it feels like stuff that should have already been in the game and they're never worth the 10+ dollars the "big" DLC cost. Expansion packs on the other hand.. Usually ten dollars more than DLC, sometimes more.. But always add a lot more content and don't leave you feeling ripped off.... Unless it was already an awful game... Or the company just made a bad EP to steal a few extra bucks. As for Social Gaming.... Second Life? Great idea.. Still needs fine tuning or a graphical overhaul it does.
