In my opinion, Counterstrike sucks. But the reasons behind that are for another thread. Hence, I recommend you get DOD Source *only*.

Edit: And for teamwork, on most pub servers you will rarely find teamwork other than perhaps attacking/defending in groups. All people care about is their own a$$, and sometimes people don't even try for the objective (planting/defusing the bomb).

Some people would argue the first three games you mentioned have at least some non linearity.

Regardless, my experience with non linearity has been so-so. RPGish games that are *completely* free roaming, like Stalker...not exactly the most effective medium for an FPS game. But on the other hand, open environment but linear progressin games have produced 2007's best PC game (Crysis).

Linear games offer limited replay value, that's true. But you're unique in that you don't care for multiplayer, since that's where a good portion of PC gamers kill the most time.

In all, I'm not enthused about this FPS/RPG trend that may be continued with Far Cry 2.

Halo 1 on PC was pretty good. Still, I don't think Halo 2 or 3 added anything interesting to the franchise besides perhaps duel weild and continuing the storyline.

You'll find that most PC gamers hate Halo.

May I emphasize in this thread that graphics do not make the game. They enhance it.

Personally I don't like how open ended STALKER is, it's distracting and takes away from the story. I'd rather have multiple ways to complete an objective, mutiple paths through a level, mutiple choices and decisions that lead to different events and plot twists and different endings etc.PTMags

Yo this guy is my homie right here - this is exactly my problem with STALKER. All this open-endedness is pulling me away from the actual gameplay, the shooting - instead I have to go to run across the map, pick up supplies, artifacts, sell, trade, talk with NPCs. I don't care for that. I care for the shooting. Crysis, on the other hand, features multiple ways to do an objective, and choices as to how you want to do your mission. That's the future of gaming, my friends.

THREAD RESURRECTION!!! WOOOT!

Well there's a lot of potential there and many things to correct IMO.

I am intrigued certainly, but I will have to wait and see both the criticial and player responses to identify whether the flaws of the previous game have been fixed.

aliblabla2007

agree with this.. there are many things that need to be fixed... I hope they release playable demo for this.

I wouldn't count on one being an open world thing - another reason why I detest them.

What, you mean a demo represent a proper open world like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s?

Just put a limited (2 or 3) number of territories in the demo, and put a time limit on how long you can play the demo. Voila. Problem solved. Just choose the correct territories and story advancement sections so as not to spoil anything major.

Reminds me of Midtown Madness 2 demo...oh i loved that game years ago

An intellectual is a person who has discovered something more interesting than sex.Aldous Huxley

It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.Albert Einstein

Haha, agreed. I never pre-ordered anything, ever. I'm not going to blindly burn my money.
