I'm surprised how many people actually don't know these things. Looks like I was too self-centered when I said these are obvious stuff. Guess this article actually does help.
From what I know, a flash drive has only a limited number of erase-write cycles, and for now even the best flash memory has only one million cycles. With all the background task writing and erasing bits of information, wouldn't the operating system wear out all the cycles quickly, making the flash drive completely useless?
I still felt that if he had a healthy company, he might be able to create Daikatana the way he wanted it. He was in a really bad time (transition from Quake to Quake 2) to try to build a brand new company and brand new game with some brand new concepts. The truth is, graphics sells no matter what, but if your game rely on innovations alone, it will fail completely if it isn't innovative in the right way. I would love to see John Romero get a team together and remake Daikatana. Everything that is supposed to be in Daikatana has all been done now, including RPG-style stats management (Deus Ex), side kicks, and others. This time there won't be any screw up.
