System Wars' #1 Poster

I've basked in the glow of System Wars' #1 poster from 2006-2008, but now I think it's time that I pass on my crown and my legacy. Seeing as I am not on much anymore, I've decided to give up my #1 poster signature and give it to someone else as unbiased as me who posts more frequently now than I do.

So let me know who you recommend and I'll consider it. Adios for now.

Back to Work - Be a throne warmer for Yo_Foo competition!

Well I'm back to work. And because I don't work night shifts anymore I probably won't be on too often to write big long truthful posts explaining facts about the PS3 being much better than the other consoles ;)

Seriously though it is great to be back here. Indeed things have changed. And things have changed since I've been back. GUFU have suddenly gone quiet with Blackbond and crew. And I seem to have hit a raw nerve with users about how MGSIV will be the most successful of SSBB and GEOW2! And with the poll results in my favour - it certainly put a lot of people in their place.

Yes System Wars has remained standing as I walk through the regel auditorium, over the red carpet to my throne. I have replaced my Giants baseball cap with a jewel encrusted crown, and I have donned a cape and carry a sceptor for dramatic effect. Yes the prince of System Wars has now become a king...but I must confess - I need someone to keep the seat warm for me until my return.

People: feel free to nominate yourself as the Seat-Warmer yo_foo. You may don my #1 poster tag, use my infamous ':'(' symbol at the end of your posts and even rant about how amazing the PS3 is. Yes that's right, I'm looking for someone to be me until my holidays!

So don't delay - apply today! (terms and conditions apply)

The Legend Is Back

Ladies and Germs, children and the owned,

The #1 Poster on System Wars is baaaaaack! I've been taking some time off on holidays with my wife and we have a special little bundle of joy to train up to be the next legend of System Wars when I finally retire.

Thanks for the warm reception. It seems a lot has changed since I've last been on: no more long quote chains and other stuff. More importantly I draw attention to how 'high and mighty' BlackBond has become since I've left.

I think BlackBond should pretty much thank me for all the attention he's received since i've been away. He wouldn't be where he is today without me. I am referred to as his 'nemisis' but for me to be regarded as his nemisis - he would have to at least come close to owning me which has he not done, and seemingly never will do. I regard mvent2 as my nemisis mainly due to the fact he's been the only one ever to have come close to owning me. But seeing as it seems he might have left, I guess Blackbond and I will have some very interesting discussions for years to come.

I also would like to say how great it is to see cakeorrdeath become a mod here at system wars. We've had some great discussions over the time I've been around and I sure hope it does continue - they couldn't have given it to a better poster. I would also like to state how happy i am to see my 'Zero Credibility' banner still in my sig. It pretty much sums up the rivalry between myself and BB / GUFU since before I left.

I would also like to say I HAVE NOT BEEN POSTING ON OTHER BOARDS! Gamespot and System Wars is my one and only.

Anyway I'm glad to be back. I've greased the old hinges and I'm ready to speak the truth on the forums!

Yo_Foo Does Launch: Nintendo Wii

The Wii has been officially launched in Australia! The moment a lot of young people have been waiting for. And indeed there were young people at the stores. But was anyone really that interested?

I was at the shopping centres all day (up until 3:00 QLD AUS Time) then I went back to a friend's place to play the Wii. And I was able to compile this report for your viewing pleasure. And I warn you, some of the information I found out may shock and surprise you...

It was a cold Thursday morning. Unusual for spring. however I was awake and ready to drive to the stores in order to check whether anyone was actually bothering about the Wii. I took my Mercedes Benz convertable to the shopping centre as I could get a deluxe premium wash while I was scouring the mall for people who were interested in the Wii.

I entered the mall, inhaled the smell of commerce and continued down the escalator. The first store was K-Mart. I entered K-Mart and to my surprise there was a huge banner advertising the Wii for the AMAZING and GENEROUS price of $400! I looked inside the store. Didn't look to be many people lapping up this bargain so I entered the store further. I found the game department and there were 3 kids aged about 10-11 playing the Wii. Hmmm interesting. Not many parents there either. So I left the store. K-Mart had 5 people near their Wii set ups and I saw no one purchasing the console.

I continued to EB games. I figured there would be a few people in there buying the Wii...well no. The time was about 10:30 and I was talking to an attendant at EB games, Jessica, that it had been an uneventful day so far. "Not as big as the 360 launch" she said.  She was right.  These same stores were absolutely jam packed for the Wii Launch.  No one seemed to care.  So headed out to another well known store and no such luck...

"Business has been pretty slow today.  I expected more people than this seeing as we had a huge launch for 360.  People camped out in the shopping centre just to be the first to get one!"  It was true...there was no one there.

I thought to be fair, I would check out the CBD.  Well there were more people but I saw no one - NOT A SOUL - carrying a Wii console.  I asked the shop attendants if the Wii sold a lot today and they said "a few.  Not anywhere near the amount that the 360 sold on launch!"  Again, the 360.

This was the case with every shop.  And soon enough after further scouring.  I went to a mate's place who got the Wii for his son Zach.  Zach was only 9 years old but was familiar with Zelda and Mario from the Gamecube.  My mate says that everyone from the hospital who has children under 12 has bought a Nintendo console because they are the most suited to that age demographic.  That's it!  That is what people think of the Wii.  That's so important I'll state it in Italics...

"everyone from the hospital who has children under 12 has bought a
Nintendo console because they are the most suited to that age
demographic."

That is what the general public think about the console.  Not a single adult I know talks about how the Nintendo games look cool or how good Mario is.  Not a single adult cares.  Why?  Well read the quote above.

But enough with the idle chit chat.  Enough with the roving reporting I hear you say.  Did you even play the console?  Do you know what you are talking about?  The answer is yes.  I wasn't just at my mate's place for tea and scones.  I was there to try Zach's gaming system.  I gave him a go at Wii Sports.  Yeah fun for the first 5 mins but then I found it a little boring...but Zach seemed to enjoy it!  The new generation has shorter attention spans and Zach is a prime example of how mini games can lower the attention spans of many youngsters.

I noticed he owned Legend of Zelda.  I asked him what he thought of it.  "Too boring" he said.  "it's just a movie!"  Soon enough I was allowed a go at the Wii as Zach had to complete his homework.  The real test: Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess...

The game was very disappointing.  VERY disappointing.  Everything about the review was generous compared to what really happens in the game.  The graphics looked terrible.  The environments looked drabbier than the video suggests.  The control scheme was difficult and un necessary.  No I didn't get to the part with Link as a Wolf.  But the real question is...Do I really want to after playing that tripe?  Review was very generous but I think fair enough.  I personally would have given it lower but heck I thought it was a good job by the reviewer to give that score.

But this isn't all about Zelda.  It's about the console.  What would I give the console...no body really cared...

0/1 for design - white box looks ugly and its small but looks like it will break easily.  Wii mote and other thing is awkward.

0/1 for graphics - I would give negative points but I can't.  Face it.  The graphics look terrible and dated.  May as well buy an X-Box it has better graphics (original X-Box that is!)

0.5/1 for innovation - sure it's innovative but a) you can't turn it off and b) some of the features come off as gimmicky

0/1 for lastability - Most of the titles on the Wii won't last a couple of hours.  They aren't story driven or complicated.  Just mini games.

0/1 for launch titles - LOZ is disapppointing, Wii sports is just poor.  Madden 07 is ruined on the console and Red Steel...is just a laggy hacked up game.

overall:

1/5

Oh dear.  Looks like nintendo have served up a real messy dish.  I thought they would've fixed most of the errors from E3 but I was very surprised.  And public interest in Brisbane seemed very low.  My mate should know - he went at midnight to pick the console up after work.  He said there wasn't many people there at all.  I would've gone myself but I was working...

I hope you all enjoyed my guide.  I have been serving this one up for a while.  Took me a while to plan for it.  Hope this thread doesn't flop like TP did on gamespot!    Feel free to reply!

Yo_Foo's Christmas Buyers Guide

With Christmas around the corner, I thought it was necessary to find out which console really is the best present for people under the Christmas tree.

To help certain age groups I sorted the analysis into three age groups:

Under 9s

10-17

and

18+

So let's start with the

When I Go...

If I happen to leave here by any reason, just remember that I will return one day to lead the cows head on against the Wii, and I will be born again to continue the crusade.
