Anyone know of PAL/NTSC issues?

The Japanese PS3 is NTSC, UK is PAL.

According to the Sony this may cause problems, anyone tried it?

How did you sign up?

Did you use a fake address to get past the set up?

I live in Japan and want to use the US psn.

I live in Japan and just bought a 40GB PS3.

But, the Playstation Network sign-in pages don't have English as an option if I list Japan as my country of residence.

I don't want to sign into the Japanese network as it will all be in Japanese, including demos/trailers/shopping etc.

Anyone know if it's possible to sign into the US or UK networks?

I've already tried with the US network but was stumped when it came to an address.

I have family in the UK, could I use that address?

Any help/advice here would be greatly appreciated,

Yes, it's output is full 1080 through HDMI.

The files are watchable, just not great.

I've been trying lots of different files to see which ones work and don't, but Sony's 2GB DivX cap per file doesn't help.

Any film of 720p runs over 2GBs so you end up with the last twenty minutes or so of great looking rips being cut off.

And as for .mkv files.......what a pain.

I live in Japan and just bought a PS3 to go with my Sony Bravia KDL-40W5000.

It's a full HD screen so I got a HDMI cable and downloaded the latest PS3 upgrade that allows DIVX.

However, the quality of the 'upscaling' through the PS3 is quite poor on my DIVX discs, resulting in a poorer picture than on my older TV.

The DiVX files are all DVD quality rips and looked great on my older 29" screen.

Is the loss of quality normal for a much bigger screen, or is there some setting/fiddling I can do in the menu to improve the quality of the picture?

Just shed a bundle on the telly/console, so any help here would be great.

Japan uses NTSC, so it looks like US Bluray might work.

Had the same problem with PAL/NTSC on the PS2.

Anyone any idea if the Japanese PS3 would have English menus?

I live in Japan and the PS3 is quite cheap over here, 50,000 yen for the 60GB version is great.

But before I drop the money, can a Japanese PS3 play US/UK games?

Is it truly region free?

I've also heard that playing online is limited to the country you're in, so I wouldn't be able to play against family/friends who live in the UK, is this true?

Anyone out there have a Japanese one?

Is there the option to have the menus in English?

Any help on these questions would begreatly appreciated, the import shops here sell a US version of the PS3, but it's double the price!!
