Finally played it

I am finally playing the Orange Box. Half Life 2 is good - really good, even - but not as good as HL1. The gravity gun is great times.

I'm back!!

I'm back, still gaming and now doing it with a free conscience!

I have been playing Homeworld. Liking it. One level left. I think it will be a doozee

maybe one of the finest ever

i played fallout 2 back in 2008, i enjoyed it but i don't really remember many details of it. i am playing it again right now (maybe halfway through) and i am so so so so impressed with it.

i have always liked rpgs, and here are some things that set this game apart as a superior rpg

setting and game world - no tired fantasy cliches here - the post apocalyptic atmosphere is very well executed, in game world is huge and there is so much to do and see everywhere you go. engrossing and awesome.

characters - options for character creation and development are wide and varied. you can make all sorts of theme characters even, tons and tons of perks and skills. npcs are interesting. the writing in the game is very very good. dark and gritty with some (mostly) well executed humor.

combat - the combat engine is so good that i wish fighting happened much more often. lots of weapons with noticeably different effects and ranges, enemies are interesting, allies are actually pretty damn useful.

i might just consider this one the best rpgs i have played ever.

DK was great

I just beat the final level of dungeon keeper. was working at it all day. all in all, i am REALLY impressed with dungeon keeper. very very great game, just a fantastic set of concepts, all well executed.

funny thing is, it had even less story than total annihilation, but i didn't mind at all. this game was OVERPOWERINGLY good. shame multiplayer is quite dead, but not surprising.

that finishes my 'old but great' list. back to the ign one. next up : FALLOUT 2.

since last

have played the following since last i wrote here

fallout 1 - played this about 4 years ago, played again and loved it again. great great game. i love crpgs in general but this one had a great atmosphere and was a little twisted.

total annihilation - i finally played this one after being aware of its legacy for so long. i was actually pretty impressed with most of it, but the parts did not equal a glorious whole as much as i would have hoped. lack of story was lame.still a fun play that i grinded out to the very end

now i am playing dungeon keeper 1 for the first time and i am also really really impressed with it as well. good game.

red alert

for the past few weeks i have been steadily playing red alert one. it is great fun, a reminder of how RTS games were back when i first discovered them. not that i played ra back in the day - i was a warcraft 2 man. total fantasy geek as a kid. my friends played ra but not i. so i am finally tasting it and it is very fun, though certainly not without flaws. pathfinding is savage

Games

I can hear my trashy fat **** of an upstairs neighbor arguing with her fat trashy man.

16 years after its glorious release, i am finally getting acquainted with civilization 2. its reputation precedes it by a vastness but it somehow totally lives up to it. what a brilliant gem of a game. and the strategic potential is huge. i don't think i've liked a game this much since the mandate of heaven.

finished diablo. great game but i played it so damn much as a teenager than it didn't resonante with me this time through. nice to play again though.

more games

I played delta force all the way through. moderately enjoyable game, but nothing too memorable. certainly not what i would call noteworthy (but is this not a note? hmmm...)

i then went back for a blast to the past and played simcity 2k for the first time since high school. the game was good in small bursts but my enthusiasm never really blossomed out. with cheats the game felt boring, and without cheats the damn budget was just unmanagable. i ended up feeling similiar to how i felt with caesar 3. maybe i just don't really enjoy city building sims.

now i'm playing another blast from the past, good old DIABLO. glorious in its simplicity. sure brings back memories.
