New Rush Song!

The full version of 'Far Cry' from the upcoming Rush album 'Snakes and Arrows' has been posted!

The intro sounds like it's off of 1978's 'Hemispheres', and the rest of the song kicks ass.

Go now!

2007, The Year I Have No More Money

It looks like 2007 is shaping up to be a good year for games, which is good news for my favorite hobby, but bad news for my cash flow.

For one thing, I think this year is when I'm going to finally break down and buy an Xbox 360, which is a $400 chunk of change in itself.  I was hoping that the rumored redesigned console with the HDMI port/smaller size would be announced at GDC, along with a lower price, but it seems that is not happening anytime soon.

The Wii looks like it will come into its own this year in terms of software, with a number of big titles on the way.  I'm looking forward to what developers can do with games that are designed for the Wii from the ground up (instead of just previous generation ports).

So here's a look at the games I'm looking forward to in 2007, and some games that are already on the market that I hope to pick up;

Xbox 360:

Dead or Alive 4 (My favorite fighting game series)
Mass Effect
Earth Defense Force 2017
Burnout 5 (Too bad there is no crash mode...)
Halo 3
Gears of War
Unreal Tournament 3

Wii:

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (Missed this one at launch)
Super Paper Mario
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Brothers: Brawl

Nintendo DS:

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
(!!!)
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Elite Beat Agents
(Not sure why I haven't picked this game up yet)

Playstation 2: (It's not quite dead!)

God of War II
Final Fantasy XII
(Missed this while playing WoW and Zelda: Twilight Princess)

It looks like it's going to be a very good year indeed, and who needs food anyway?

Blogging, Finally

So I finally broke down and created a banner for my profile page, and I figured I would start my Gamespot blog up as well.

I expect to post mainly video blogs and reviews here, but I will enter some text entries from time to time if it I've got something to complain/talk about.

On the games front I finally finished Zelda: Twilight Princess with 100% of the game complete. I really liked the bittersweet ending to the game which has become kind of a trademark for Zelda endings.

I'm still not sure where Twilight Princess fits on my list of all time favorite Zelda games but it is up near the top. I think I'll have to do another play through in which I just stick to the main quest and not bother with the Poe Souls and such. I wound up getting bored with the side quests/rollgoal/fishing but the main quest of the game is really quite good, so I need to experience that straight through without getting sidetracked by the optional things in the game.

Other than that I've been playing the games that I missed from yesteryear on my Virtual Console. I never owned a Genesis so I really like the fact that I can play some of the games from that system.

My wife and I are working our way through Golden Axe and that game is just not that fun. There is no surefire way to tell if you are lined up with your enemy to beat him down, so you spend quite a bit of time just swinging your weapon around like a fool. Also the magic bottles are not plentiful enough for two players playing co-op to make magic all that effective. The game has frustrated me enough that I have to beat it now though, I'm getting my eight bucks worth damn it!

Super Castlevania IV is really great and totally worth the eight dollars. It's got a good amount of challenge (with the trademark Castlevania cheap shots), it's nice looking, and has great music. I'm not sure why I missed this game the first time around (I was probably short of cash back then).
