Let me just say this even though he will never get this message: Thank you Andrew Reiner of GI, thank you.
I was reading through his blogs on Gi and all that stuff, starting with his top 25 current games, making me realize what games I still have to play/finish. Then his office, literally, it is amazing, things worth too much money to count, and it is all gaming items. i have an Epic Mickey figure, and I think that is it. Then the top 200 games of all time making, and so forth. I thought of my top 25 games. At this point I realized: "Where have I been over the past couple of years?" (Other things herehereandhere).
I look around my gaming collection, a fairly large collection, a fairly small number completed. You look for games Pokemon, which I have completed every one I own (which is a pretty high number). Then you look at Super Mario Bros. 3, arguably one of the greatest games of all time, and I think I am on world 3 or 4. Mass Effect: stopped halfway because I went to the wrong planet and am in an EXTREMELY tough battle with someone (so long I can't even remember the person's name), also preventing me from playing Mass Effect 2. Final Fantasy VII, again one of the greatest games ever, I am only 5-6 hours into (the game is about 30 hours long). The only FPS campaign that I have finished (besides Portal), is Halo 3, which I have only beaten in co-op mode. And the list goes on and on...
Now it ends here: BioShock. My. Favorite. Game. Ever. But I still haven't finished yet, because I have been stuck for nearly a year now I think (maybe 10 months). This just proves me. I start, and then move on. My collection is too big. Let me just list some games that I have to finish, and people please comment which of these you would want just so I know how badly I have to finish these.
BioShock
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 1
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Assassin's Creed
Final Fantasy VII (PSP)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (GBA)
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Metroid Prime
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda (3DS)
The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventures of Link (3DS)
Metroid (3DS)
Super Mario Bros. (3DS)
Epic Mickey
Mario Cart Wii
Super Mario Galaxy (beat the first play through, but not the second)
Halo 3 (single player)
Halo: Reach
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Daxter
And many more...
My list of game that I hope to finish (in order):
1. BioShock (No surprises there, this will let me buy BioShock 2, and then I can be ready for BioShock: Infinite!!!)
2. Mass Effect
3. Mass Effect 2 (Right after Mass Effect? What a surprise!)
4. Assassin's Creed (Because apparently #2 is so great)
5. Super Mario Galaxy (2nd half of stars, but only if I can find the game :D)
6. Halo: Reach (But I still think that 3 is better except for the fact that there is a Sniper Needler in this game)
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Have to master MW2 before I play MW3) (Can switch with 5 or 6)
8. Half-Life 2
9. Half-Life 2: Episode 1 (Now take a guess for the next one...)
10. Half-Life 2 Episode 2 (Great job geniuses!)
11. Epic Mickey (Kinda forgot bout this game... so could go up much higher because the Mickey figure staring at me is giving me guilt)
12. Mario Kart Wii
13/14. I forgot Metroid Prime and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, so remember those deserve to be high up!
Portable games will be played over time so the order here:
1. The Legend of Zelda
2. Final Fantasy VII
3. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Super Mario Bros.
5. We'll see from here on out....
I think that the greatest gaming article I've ever read though, was a GI issue (I forget the number), and the article was called "Are Video Games Art?" or something of that sort. It showed me what I was really missing in games like Shadow of Colossus, and what I need to finish enjoying in BioShock.
Well I think that is all I can write for now. I will try to expand on this later.
