@tonedefff: I was gonna say pretty much the same :) i remember StarFox 64 or something costing $60 or $70 when I was a kid. Technology has improved, simplifying the physical production of games (and now you have digital!) which may have offset inflation a bit. I'm just a rocket scientist, not an economist, so that's just a thought. So the increase doesn't really bug me too much as long as I get a decent experience for a good amount of time that makes the overall purchase worthwhile.

And I'm lucky to be older, have a good job and be able to afford a few games. That $60/game price tag was really steep when I was a kid, so my family only bought a few of the really good games and we dug into each one pretty deeply. And what you typically get with Nintendo system games is more polish, fewer bugs and an overall smoother experience that can make up for a lack of pushing the envelop in other ways.

@zyxe: Oh I also thoroughly enjoyed Monster Hunter Rise, co-op is a lot of fun and one of the few Switch titles I've enjoyed that have online co-op!

@dmblum1799: Totally depends on what genres interest you most. I love RPGs, have some love fore non-competitive FPS but hate platforming and racing games, and have been gaming for 30+ years, grew up on Nintendo (original Zelda and Metroid, still love them) so I'm familiar with the origins of most of their IPs.

I absolutely adored Xenoblade Chronicles 1, HATED most of 2 but am glad I finished it anyway as it helped me understand the universe a bit more and my favorite was Xenoblade 3--if I hadn't played 2, I wouldn't understand parts of 3 so at least it was worth it for that. I'm looking at Shin Megami for my next purchase.

While I put a ton of hours into BotW, I found it mostly uninspired, lazy and shallow (horrible writing.....HORRIBLE. I'd have preferred zero story to shallow characters with poor writing), where I had been a HUGE fan up through Majora's Mask. I loved Metroid Prime but not Echoes or Fusion, so I could not recommend BotW, KoT or Metroid Dread.

There's no loss of Mario or platforming games, so if you enjoy those, there are more than enough to choose from and I think a controller works best for them, so any off the list would suffice.

So it really depends on what kind of games you prefer.

@dmblum1799: I'm old and I played them waaaaay later but still enjoyed them both. But I'm also enjoying playing 76 with my bf so who knows lol (played 3 and also enjoyed it).

I either don't remember DOS II getting a 10 or I blocked it out of my mind. The game was fun, but the story, especially at the end, had some huge plot holes and stupidity, and there was enough annoyance when trying to click on an object in battle accidentally triggering my character to walk through it's entire turn (add the elemental effect layers from AOEs and UGH) and you have an 8 maybe. the writing was mediocre at best. Although it was fun to be able to complete an area's story then rampage through and kill everyone and get all the loot and XP without it impacting your story....

@mogan: I'm a late game adopter so it would be useful for us slackers :)

@olddadgamer: NOOOOOOO! I liked the dude a lot until I went to one of his actual restaurants for my birthday, which was unfortunately the morning of the superbowl that year and we went right at opening, the place was a mess, the floor was covered in scraps of food and the food itself was meh. So sad!!!

But back on topic... I think his voice would be great for a game like Crazy Taxi :D
