Prototype puts you in a fun, gory experience as you rampage in a chaotic Manhattan as Alex Mercer.

User Rating: 8.5 | Prototype X360
Prototype brings you into a chaotic rendition of Manhattan as Alex Mercer, a mutated man trying to recover his memories. You have a variety of powers to destroy anything standing between you and your objective, making for an interesting concept. Does this game live up to its hype? Read on.

GAMEPLAY
Prototype's strongest element is its superb gameplay. Playing the story mode of the game is very fun indeed, but it gets even better when deciding to embark on a journey in the Free-Roam mode. Whether you're finding one of your favorite buildings in New York City or just causing chaos, you're guaranteed to have a blast. You have many unbelievable powers to choose from as you unleash your might throughout the city, but one of these skills stands out from the rest: the ability to consume your enemies. By brutally murdering one of your enemies, you can take their form and use it as a disguise to escape the military or infiltrate certain areas unnoticed. All in all, it's an explosion of fun. If all you look for in a video game is fun gameplay, look no further; Prototype is definitely a game you should try.

Unlike the game's original plan, no cooperative gameplay is featured in it. Multiplayer-lovers may not take pleasure in it so much, but those who do like single-player games can enjoy this. Even if your favorite aspect in a game is multiplayer, like me, you should still look into it.

STORY
Basically you were a part of an experiment and you got these powers from surgery that was being done on you. You wake up and escape the facility you were being kept in. You now have absolutely no memories about your past, and pretty much the entire story revolves around retrieving your memories and getting revenge on the people who did all of this to you. At the same time, the population is being infected by some sort of virus, and it spreads every day. The story probably could have been more, but it's a nice plot and what would be expected for another story about a superhero (well, I wouldn't say hero).

GRAPHICS
Prototype's down point is the graphics, without a doubt. Nothing amazing was done graphic-wise in this game. Character models aren't very detailed and the majority of the buildings look generic. What the developers did do well, however, is the brutal blood effects featured everywhere that you rampage. The red splatters on the ground and even the 3D blood models look very nice and definitely add to the feel of the game. So, overall, the graphics are average, but with some great, gory features at the same time.

ENJOYABILITY
Prototype is definitely a very enjoyable game. It's just fun, to get down to the point. Causing chaos and playing through the story delivers a certain chance for a great time. I'd have to say that roaming is just as fun as it is in the Grand Theft Auto series, so if you're just looking for a bit of fun or an intense game, you should definitely look into this game, and rent it at the least. Prototype is an experience that you shouldn't ignore. If you're a fan of superhero games, sandbox games, or any similar games, get off the computer and buy this game! Any others should at least go to their nearest rental store.
