Consume or be Doomed!
User Rating: 8.5 | Prototype X360
Prototype is one of those games that is fun, but just doesnt seem to hit the mark. Like most games it has good things but it also has those flaws. One thing I loved about this game is you're an Antihero which means you basicly have no morale decisions to make, which is fun when you're body surfing on a innocent civilian. As you could tell this game has GORE, and if you take the time to look at the decapitated and severed bodies you can see the spines popping out, or watch it slowly bleed. Next the entire game in its self lasts about 10 hours, and I did about one side mission and just started on New Game+ so this is will be about around another 10 hours, along with the added free roaming after the game is complete. Also the ability to transform your body into a super killing machine is amazing with anything from more muscle mass to a huge ass blade. These attack powers can also be combined with the defensive skills, which my favorite was encasing yourself in a suit of life mass armor that allows you to run threw anything and everything. But the highlight of this entire game is the parkor system. You can run around with the press (and holding) of a button which helps the action move fluently along. Finally the story was quite intriguing, and takes some unexpected turns. Also the cut scenes from after you consume a Web of Intrigue person are played out with real pictures which is a nice change of pace.
The worst part of this game is the graphics, they could have defintly been amped up, and also the pop ups of constant items should've been solved. But through the swift destructive action I highly doubt you will be looking closly at each building. Another part that sucked in the game was the fact that you get way too many moves that they are reduced to using button combos. Which in the heat of action isn't easy to do, expecially when you have too (and I mean have too) press a button simotaneously. The side missions you recieve are bland and really aernt neccessary to do unless you want an achievment. Then finally the targeting and dodging system. The targeting feels broken it works, but every so often you try to target the huge ass leg of the Hydra when all of a sudden you attacking an infected person. Also the camera and targeting system work with the R-Stick which can screw you up and lead to the eventual death. Speaking of dying the dodging system you recieve is the roll, which almost never works. Seeing that you when you actually do it you roll into another explosion.
All in all this is a great game that must be checked out. If you still sceptically wait until the price drops or rent it. As long as you get to play the mahem. So I give this great game an 8.5 out of 10.
