Psi-ops is a game that stars a typical looking hero with amazing mind powers. He, like many other characters in the game has been taken by a secret organization and had his mind experimented with. He later rebels and starts to learn to use his new powers. His goal is to confront the people behind the scenes who did this to him and so many others. His powers include pyrokinesis, telekinesis, mind drain and remote viewing. All powers have different uses at different point in the game. Sometimes you will need to mind drain opponents to regain health, other times remote viewing will allow you to scan through areas that are not yet explored. While you have a standard set of assault weapons it is the two types of kinesis that really make the game so enjoyable. It is a great feeling using your telekinesis to pick up an enemy and fling him into an exploding barrel. Then taking the dead body and pitching it into an enemy rendering him unconscious.
The game is not without its faults. The controls do take a bit of getting used. For example, it will take a few games before you can learn to control your character while moving an enemy around via telekinesis. The targeting system can also be suspect at times. Graphically the game is pretty standard. You won’t find yourself stopping to view the landscapes because of their beauty.
As a whole Psi-ops is one of the few games that comes along and completely freshens a genre. There are currently so many adventure games out there one doesn’t know where to start when trying to pick a good one. You could buy re-hashed garbage like a Tomb Raider sequel, or try this gem that is bargain priced at about $19.99. Give it a try, it won’t disappoint. This is a game that sits among other great games as a diamond in the rough.
