Funny. Very funny. Not to mention fun. Very fun.

User Rating: 9.6 | Psychonauts PS2
This game won two Gamespot awards. Flashing light. Loud bells. Checker flag the size of a football field. Any of these appearing yet in your subconscious? No? Weeelllllllll, I guess I will need to further convince you. This game is great and you need to play it. End of story. Ha, just kidding. Get ready for another long (-winded) review folks, which is incidentally my first for my favorite game system.

Does anyone actually read these reviews? Never mind. Anyway, the greatest part about is the humor. Yeah, I know, games should be primarily judged on gameplay, hence the name GAMEs. Well, I'll get to that. Put your mind at rest though, it is quite good. Anyway, humor. It's funny as hell. Endofstory(not)... think Nickelodeon, and how much you loved it as kid. If you didn't, get away from society, depraved monstrosity. Now, add a lot more wit to the cartoons, animate it superbly, and add a touch of mature humor. Voila! Psychonauts! I'm not saying the graphics are excellent, no. It' just looks great. The style, that's the word. Check it out for yourself. These screenshots are practically useless. the voice acting is magnificent and goes along well with the game. The soundtrack isn't especial, but it's not bad. I'm mostly rating the sound on the dialogue, which is written by comedic geniuses. same with the plot.

Oh yeah, and if you have just noticed the length of this review, feel free to leave and go to youtube.com or something.

OK, the most important part of any game, the boobies. No, the gameplay. It's fun. Like 3D platformers? You'll love this. The same art style in the cutscenes are applied to the levels. The first level is the ultimate 3D platformer cliche(accented "e" here). It's called Basic Braining (ha) and teaches newbs to this genre the ropes. Then it gets interesting. You're in a rather open world. You can roam around, listen to amusing dialogue, collect junk, and explore. Oh yeah, I should mention the collecting thing. There's a lot of it. Get this, get that, then get some of that. And quite a lot is required to proceed, too. Anyway, in this cool almost non-linear place, you enter levels. But you have to pick them in order in the beginning. Oh well. The levels, which I have mentioned are creatively and artistically designed, are subconsciouses. Yeah. You can expect some pretty crazy worlds. here is where the ultimate collectionization lies. Emotional baggage, figments of the imagination, stuff. You gain powers, telekinetic powers that is, throughout the game. They make the game more puzzling. In most cases, to get past a certain part, you have to use a specific power. It's all good. Because of the massive collect-a-thon, which eventually nets you a bonus cutscene at level 100, I'm giving this Value a good grade. Not to mention just playing it again just because it's that good especially with the amusing scenes you can very easily miss. It's like watching Talledega Nights again. Nothing wrong with that. Oh, and if the whole level up thing has you confuzzled, here's my quick(not) explanation. No it's not an RPG. Certain things you collect can upgrade your Psi Cadet level. this at first nets you new powers, then eventually upgrades to old powers, like pimping out your mom's car. Anyway, that's all. If you're still not convinced, go to youtube.com (Am I obsessed with that site or what?) and watch the billion and a quarter videos uploaded there. If that doesn't change your mind, you just don't like odd games or humor. It's only a pity this game will never reach Greatest Hits. It's the most underrated game I know of.
