Just an absolutely loveable adventure that lifts your heart till it's stuck in your throat.
The story, characters and dialog is the first thing you notice. They are so well written and crafted. The animations is so well integrated with the gameplay that you feel like being inside the movie, that Psychonauts really feel like. The characters reminds me, like many others allready have mentioned, of those found in the animated masterpieces of Tim Burton. If it's a rip-off, you'll have to decide for yourself. I would rather see it as a tribute to the similarity between the creations of Schafer and Burton.
The gameplay is pretty standard for a platformer. The controls answer as good as you want them to, and the jumping, fighting and floating is really fun. The AMAZING leveldesign (more about that later) lifts the basic platforming to something more than the ordinary.
The graphics isn't that advanced, but the way all elements is put together truely makes Psychonauts breathtaking in its details. All characters animate smoothly and believable.
The voiceacting and soundeffects is like nothing else out there. It's so well directed and acted, that you can't do anything else but loving it! The great acting reinforces the feeling of playing through a movie.
The replay value is allright. There's a lot of things to collect, and the levels is so crazy and full of depth that you can't wait to get back into them.
The idea of travelling through peoples minds is so darn well fullfilled. Every stage is totally different and makes the gameplay feel different between the levels. The levels is like nothing you've seen before. They are surreal masterpeices, truely original.
This is one of those games that sticks with you for a long time. An adventure you're, from the moment you finish it, longing to get back to. I highly recomend it.
