I love the updated graphics, sound and music. All the characters are wonderfully detailed and animated beautifully. Mac has gained a little weight and still has the same control and feel as the original. I'm happy that they kept many of the boxers from the original game, but gave them some new moves and different timing and speed on their punches. This made the game very challenging at times. Most gamers won't beat all the boxers through on their first attempt. The fact that the 2nd time through is even harder will keep gamers coming back for more. Nintendo took the necessary steps to add a Challenge mode that allows you to complete 3 challenges for each boxer to unlock goodies like audio sound bites, gallery and other modes. They finally gave us a multi-player mode where you can fight Mac - vs- Mac against a friend. This is also a great addition. What we have is very good, but this game should have been even better. Things that should have been added. 1) More colorful unique arenas. The ones in Super Punchout! have more color and style. 2) More boxers, or at least 4-5 unlockable new boxers. 3) Online multi-player. Why is this missing? 4) Have careers with other boxers and competing against anyone else would have made this game a 10. I would love to do a career with Bald Bull or even Glass Joe. I'm disappointed that they didn't include Dragon Chan in the roster. 5) No training games to improve your boxer's attributes as you climb the ranks. This would have been a nice change as well.
Overall the game is still a blast to play, but feels way to much like the original PunchOut games on the NES & SNES. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I was looking for improvements and a lot more for $49.99. Having only one new boxer in the game isn't good either. The boxers in the game are fine, but I would have liked to see at least 3-4 NEW boxers and new champions. Really no big surprises except multiplayer and that's nothing special. Good, but not great.
