Great Game all around but was hoping for more.
The motion controls are what you would expect which is they don't work very well. Its cool for the first few easy fights but Punch Out is all about timing and you can't afford the lag and mistakes the motion controls can give you with the more difficult opponents. I am sure it is possible to get it to work better but not worth the effort. This seems to be a common theme with wii games unfortunately, minus a select few.
The graphics are solid for a wii title. It is hard to compare wii graphics with the other systems but I like the cartoonish nature of it which defiantly holds up for this game. I really wish they had done some better introductions for the characters when the fights start. Instead they have a few screenshots that play that gives you a sense of what the opponent your facing does outside the ring which is cool but was hoping for a bit more. I see why they did it though, since in the original nes titles you just jump right into the fight.
The game is short which makes me question the $50 price tag. I would say $30-$35 bucks would of been more appropriate but hey I am a hardcore Punch Out fan so I gotta give my support but wished they had added some new fresh faces to the roster. There are many ways this game could of been elevated to near 10 status. Online play, and as another reviewer said being able to play a career as one of the other boxers would of been amazing.
I do enjoy the new added features. For example, in exhibition mode you can fight holograms of the fighters so you can train/practice for the fight your having a hard time with. The 2 player mode is cool but the split screen makes me crazy. Its hard to tell what is going on and sometimes I just feel like I am mashing buttons. I think it will get better the more I mess with it.
So in summary this is a good game for Punch Out fans. The graphics, added features, and gameplay make for some good entertainment. Be warned it is short and if you were on it you could finish this in a day or two but if you are a Punch Out fan it is hard to pass this title up. If your on the fence I would recommend waiting till the price goes down. I honestly feel I should of waited for a price drop but all in all a decent game.
