The perfect boxing game for the Wii and Little Mac returns to the ring with his old school skills with Doc Louis.
Now 15 years later, Punch Out!! has made it to a new level on the Wii and if you played the boxing game on Wii Sports so many times already, you'll be thinking "Hmm! I think Nintendo should bring back Punch Out!! and put it on Wii because I want a bigger challenge here". But now 2 years later due to popular demand by fans, Nintendo decided to bring back Punch Out!! and they finally did and that's what we wanted to see for the Wii itself.
Punch Out!! brings back the good old classic gameplay by bringing back some well known faces along with Little Mac and Doc Louis because I'm very pleased that Doc Louis is back after a long absence
All the Opponents appear in 3 different circuits and you may recognise them really well if you played the previous Punch Out!! titles.
The Opponents in each circuit are :
Minor Circuit :
Glass Joe (France)
Von Kaiser (Germany)
Disco Kid (USA)
King Hippo (Hippo Island, Pacific Island)
Major Circuit :
Piston Hondo (Japan)
Bear Hugger (Canada)
Great Tiger (India)
Don Flamenco (Spain)
World Circuit :
Aran Ryan (Ireland)
Soda Popinski (Russia)
Bald Bull (Turkey)
Super Macho Man (USA)
Mr Sandman (USA) - Dream Fight
Disco Kid is the only newcomer in the game and he is a funky fighter and he always likes to dance while fighting. All the opponents speak in their own language which is very good for this game and also their cutscene screenshots do match up to what they are known for especially King Hippo scoffling a massive portion of food on his home Island to show how fat and ugly he really is. The funniest fighter in the game is Bear Hugger because when you face him, he just makes you laugh especially after you knock him down he'll say "Timber", at the end of round 1 or 2, he'll lick maple syrup and saying how good it is and falls asleep and mumbles and before the beginning of round 2 and 3, he drinks some maple syrup and burps loudly.
Doc Louis is also another funny character in the game as well because he always tells jokes to Little Mac about Chocolate and saying how much he loves Chocolate Bars. In each interval before the next round of a fight if Little Mac is badly bruised and beaten by his oppenent, after Doc Louis gives you advice if you press the - button on the Wii Remote, Doc Louis will eat a chocolate bar to restore your energy but you can only use that once.
When you knock down your opponent, you have the opportunity to restore some your energy before your opponent gets up or you could win by KO by the referee if your opponent doesn't get up within 10 seconds.
For the first time ever in the Punch Out!! series there is multiplayer fitted into the game and that is a good step to the series but there's no online play. In multiplayer, you have 2 little Macs fighting each other and if your player builds up a lot of power you will become Giga Mac and you unleash some very powerful punches to your opponent but you will become normal again once your power depletes.
The best thing in the game is when you get a Star Punch and once you get one, you'll be able to unleash a powerful uppercut on your opponent and also when you beat you opponent more effectively, you will get a cutscene of your opponent been beaten to the ground of the ring and sometimes some characters have a themed item that represents there country or hobbie they have in mind flying off them if you give them a KO or TKO in a fight.
Once you complete all circuits, it gets harder with the title defence where your opponents are powerfully geared up and it will be a lot tricker.
There are 2 ways to play the game and they are :
Wii Remote and Nunchuk - They work really well.
Wii Remote - Works Perfectly for old school game play.
Punch Out!! Works very well on the Wii and Next Level Games truely nailed it perfectly.
It's an essential purchase and if you are interested in proper boxing games on the Wii, add this to you collection now!
