Just when you though that this game was disappointingly short, you have a whole new wave of people to fight through.

I have been anticipating this game for a long time. Once I first saw it on this very site, I was planning to buy it, and buy it I did. At first I was a bit disappointed, because I thought you just whooped up on all the boxers and that was it, but (spoiler) then I realized you have Exhibition mode Challenges to do, and after you beat the game the first time, you have to beat it again...with everybody being super difficult. For instance, Glass Joe wears head gear so you cannot punch his face most of the time and EVERYONE starts faking punches.

Pros: Different control schemes offer variety, even though some of them aren't that great (see cons). The game is hilarious in some parts, such as King Hippo wearing a manhole cover over his stomach in the rematch to prevent you from knocking him out so easy. The character models look good, and the Exhibition/challenge mode and Title Defense rematches add a lot more depth to this game. The practice ability for people that you have not fought yet is a huge help, as I did not know what some of these guys would do, since some of their attacks have changed slightly and the timing and evasion techniques for some attacks take alot of getting used to.

Cons: Well, for one, freakin Doc Lewis. He is so annoying because eveything he talks about involves chocolate...they went way overboard with that joke. Also, using the nunchuk and/or balance board take some major getting used to, so it's best just to use the regular wii remote as if you were playing NES punchout. Some of the characters in the Contender challenge group are so easy (I TKO'ed Bald Bull in the first round on the first try) but then the Title defense mode gets really hard really fast. Seriously, I got my butt kicked by freakin Glass Joe the first time I faced him. However, the ramp up in difficulty does keep you interesting in the game. Some of the challenges in Exhibition mode are a little ridiculous too, and some of them most people (i.e., me) probably could not do without looking up instructions. The multiplayer is a bit of a joke, but it's good for a laugh. It would have been much better if you could pick from the enemy boxers and do their moves in multiplayer mode, but oh well. Overall, this is a very respectable game, which the Wii was in dire need of.
