Do you have what it takes to be a hero, the brigand leader doesn't think so........

User Rating: 9.8 | Quest For Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero (VGA Version) PC
In this the first of five games, your hero (his name can vary as you name him at the begining) has just arrived in Speilburg. The hero read a note at his hometown adventureres guild stating that Speilburg needed a hero, and that no experience was nessacary. This fit the hero quite well.

Graphics: Based on graphics of its period, I would say they are lush and beautiful. Although the purple pants the hero wear are enough to scare anyone. VGA graphics still don't hurt the eye too much today. Animations are fluid and backgrounds range from simple to absolutly broad in range and scope.

Gameplay: Adventure games normally are very involved, and this is no exception. Adding battle to Quest for Glory made it more interesting and incredible more difficult. If you don't have the right skills....well...i hope you saved. Each time you carry out a task.....say....picking you nose......you gain skill in one of the many you have. In this case the more you pick your nose, the better your skill at lockpicking.....unless its under 30...then you die. But hey....what a way to go!

Music: When music does occur it is well done, even for early soundblaster . I've gone away whistleing the hero's theme for years.

Difficulty: These games are as hard as you make them. If you level your character up enough, no one will be able to stop you. If you don't work on your skills, someone is going to ground you into a fine meat patty. Also, some puzzles take a good amount of thought...and some will be skipped all together...which makes the Sierra players guide, or an online walkthrough very helpful.

Fun: This game is fun, plain and simple. If you like adventure games, you had better find this game. I see it on e-bay almost everytime I look. If you can find it (a collection of QFG1-4 is avalable) for under 25 dollars, buy it. All of the great stuff that comes with it makes it worth it.

so what are you waiting for? a Sarus Rex? go play it!
