I first experienced R-Type III on the Super Nintendo "back in the day." At the time, my experience with the space shooter genre consisted of the Gradius series of games. R-Type was an impressive, fun, and challenging game. The Wii reproduction preserves every aspect of this incredible game - from the challenge, to the music and excitement of navigating (fighting? sweating?) through the levels.

This version of R-Type is different from its predecessors, mostly because of the opportunity to choose one of three different "Force" modes at the beginning of gameplay. Each gives you a different set of attacks and requires different strategies to play effectively.

Overall, this is a fun arcade-style shooting game. If you like games like Gradius, Ikaruga, Soldier Blade, or Raiden, spend the $8 (800 Wii points) and get an enjoyable and very re-playable game.
