An arcade ripoff of Rally-X and a great one at that!
Commodore's Radar Rat Race was their attempt at recreating the arcade hit, Rally-X, for their home PC - and they did an incredible job! Nearly the only thing different in this game from Rally-X was the on-screen characters. The gameplay element was identical to Rally-X and just as much fun. Even though I haven't played this game since the early 80s, I still remember the catchy game-start tune that played before your rat took off thru the maze. The graphics and sounds are rather simplistic as they are with Rally-X but work perfectly for this game.
If you've ever played Rally-X, then you will be able to pick up the controller for the C64 and immediately begin playing Radar Rat Race. In lieu of cars chasing you, there are now rats chasing after your rat and in place of the flags from Rally-X, you run thru the maze collecting cheeses before the time runs out or the rats corner and catch you.
I highly recommened this game if you're fond of the arcade unit - it's as close as a direct-port as I think I've seen for any ripoff out there.
